This review is from: The Book of Looms: A History of the Handloom from Ancient Times to the Present (Paperback)
If you are looking for documentation for the type of loom being used at a specific place and a specific time, this is an excellent resource. The author has really done his research, and includes very helpful drawings and paintings contemporary to the types of looms being described, as well as modern photographs of modern weavers from all over the world. I find the information on the evolution of the different types of looms interesting.

This review is from: The Book of Looms: A History of the Handloom from Ancient Times to the Present (Paperback)
The loom is a simple tool designed to hold warp yarns in allignment and under tension such that they can be alternated to allow the weft yarns to pass over and under them to create a fabric. This book shows some of the simplest looms and more complex ones. The ingenuity of man to design these implements is amazing. From a simple ordering of a series of sticks to large elaborate frames built of wood or metal, looms have been designed to simplify the process of weaving for weavers. He shows how remarkably similar looms have been built in different continents around the world.
