The tines in the rear of the clip will rip pages and damage spines, if you are not careful in placing them.

I do a lot of research work and often have two or three books open on my desk next to my computer. This book clip is an invaluable tool for helping me quickly and effectively to hold the books open while I type in the quoted material.

When engaged in a serious research and writing project, I often take a book with me for lunch when I grab a quick bite to eat. Instead of watching children jump around McDonald's Playland, I open my book, insert my book clip and can read two whole pages while eating. Then I can easily turn the page and re-insert the clip.

I have ordered several of these not only because I might have several books open at once, but in case I misplace the book clip. I am so used to it I hate to be without it.

They are also fashionable when worn on the ear -- much like those little cell phones that some people wear around. By the way, I am kidding about this. If you wear a book clip around your ear, they may not let you in McDonalds. In fact, I am not sure they would even let you in Burger King. :)

This Book Magic Book Clip is absolutly fantastic and unique for paperback books. As far as useful inventions go it ranks right up there with paper clips, clothes pins and velcro! And it beats any other type of book clip.

You really have to hold a paperback to keep them open, and if you put them down they close up by themselves. So if you're like me and you get tired of trying to hold a paperback open with your hands(and also placing bookmarks in and out), then you should try this.

During my frequent flights the flight attendants always ask me where where they can get one, and all my friends want one, but weren't able to find them. I bought mine many many years ago at a bookshop in Thomasville, Georgia. (It was only $1.00 then so it must have been one of the first batch on the market!). All my friends here in Europe wanted me to get them one, but when I went back the following year the bookshop told me they were sold out and that, sadly, they were no longer available.

I've hunted for this thing for years and happliy found it here today via a Google search - I'm going to order about 20 of them for all my friends who keep trying to steal mine <VBG>!

BTW: IMHO I doubt this book clip was ever intended for law books!!! Beside, well bound hardcover books stay open until you close them. (You don't have to "hold" hardbacks open.) You can better use a book stand or a table if you don't want to hold a hardback.

Buy one of these and it will be one of your most useful and treasured possesions - Take my word for it (I own 1600+ books and read a lot)!

After reading a few of the negative reviews I hesitated to buy this, but it was either spend a lot of money on another product that looked good, a $48 book holder that I considered, or try this and if it was lousy come here and tell everyone.

Well, I came in two days. I have tried it, and if you follow the directions it works great. No pages are ripped as one person claimed, and you can move it up and down to view the pages. Just follow the directions on the package and it is easy to use.

I am so glad that I found this because I have tendonitis in my hands and holding any book really hurts, especially paperbacks. I actually put a pillow on my lap in order to hold up the book at eye level and then lay the book on it. Now I barely have to use my hands except to lightly to hold the book on the pillow. Or you can put a kink in the pillow and the book will stay as is, that is, if you need a pillow at all; I do. The pillow was an idea from my physical therapist but he had no idea that I would still need a book holder.

P.S. I gave up using it because my hands would get bad anyway. I now use a Kindle Paperwhite and love it, but when I buy books I make sure that they are either hardbacks or larger paperbacks. I cannot hold the small paperbacks because even with the clip my wrists begin hurting.

I love this item. I use it all the time at the gym for holding my book open on the treadmill. Unfortunately I'm always losing them. I have to buy a new one every 6 months or so, even though I try to keep a spare. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find them, however.

One note. You do need to be careful how many pages to put in your clip. If you put too many, it can damage the book. If you are too rough when you position it, you can tear pages too. But that's not really the clip's fault. If you don't force it, it won't do any damage.

It works best for paperbacks, I think.

A nearly identical item, the Easy Clip, is just as effective.

It rips the pages and blocks parts of the text. Considering I paid more for shipping than for the product itself, I consider it a waste of money.

Well, basically you are getting a coat hanger's stunted little cousin. The tines in the rear of the clip will rip pages and damage spines, if you are not careful in placing them. But . . . it does what it says it will do. It is strong, so it holds open any hardcover with ease. It is not easy to pull out and place back in when you turn the page, so that is a bummer. I find it annoying, so I often stop using it. Still, when you need to keep a book open to a particular page, this malformed coat hanger is the way to go. Now, I do take issue with the product's name: "Book Magic Book Clip." There is no magic to be had here. This is caveman technology. Magic would be keeping a book open without damaging its pages. Magic would be charging a dollar for a product worth a dollar. Frankly, you can make this thing with--guess what? Yep, a coat hanger. So, charging us this much for a piece of metal is ludicrous. But we paid it, so what does that say about us? Book lovers need stuff like this, I suppose. Half-heartedly recommended.
