From the unexpected rise of The Dig to #1 Sci-Fi book, to the dark turn of the follow-up, The Opal, no one quite knows what to expect next from this rising new author...and then he releases Frederick [A Warm Place to Call Home], his best received and best reviewed tale yet.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING:
★★★★★ "Page turner that never got boring" ★★★★★ "An entirely unique idea..." ★★★★★ "...characters you care about, a villain to love (and hate), and two stories in one to keep you sucked in." ★★★★★ "Definitely diving into the sequel when it comes out." ★★★★★ "I love a book that keeps me thinking about it weeks after it's finished." ★★★★★ "...captivated...spent a sleepless night reading the whole thing!" ★★★★★

DESCRIPTION:
A mysterious woven metal artifact is found at a paleontological dig in Africa. Mystified experts, confounded by the impossible timeline they get from traditional dating methods, call upon a stubborn young man with a unique talent. Matthew Turner's gift is also his curse: When he touches any object, his awareness is flooded with the thoughts and feelings of those who touched it before him. It is a talent that many covet, some fear, and almost no one understands. Despite being exploited as a child and tormented by the unpleasant experiences imprinted on him from the various items he has "read," Matthew agrees to travel from New York to the forests of Kenya. There, threatened by unknown enemies and helped by a beautiful but prickly ally who begins to understand his strange ability, he journeys back in geological time to make a discovery so shocking that it forces us to rewrite all human history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Thriller January 16, 2011
By Paul

I wasn't sure what to think of this book, but when I started it I couldn't put it down. Think Michael Crichton but with a little more thought. I was very impressed with the way the author incorporated multiple naratorial voices into one (or maybe several) characters throughout the novel. It is really an impressive display of the author's ability to separate several strands of thought and then amalgamate them into a very compelling story line. I like novels of this type in general, but I don't know that I've read one that kept me thinking about it even after I finished it like this one did. Can't wait for the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me up late at night reading!!! Fantastic book. February 27, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't know what to say except that this is a fantastic page-turning read. I am very skeptical when it comes to most fiction books. I'm constantly waiting to be disappointed by some obscure reference that shows the author didn't do his research or the story line becomes predictable. None of that applies to The Dig. Mr. Siemsen does a wonderful job of not only keeping your interest with the present day story, but leaves you wanting more with the historical story. It is thought provoking, with twists and turns, great subtle humor, and a style of writing that really sucks you into the characters. He has created a storyline and some winning characters that should make sequel books become addictive. Well done for this first time author. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A paleontology fiction with a brand new idea August 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
I never thought of this: Since complex life emerged on Earth, human life could have evolved ca. 30 times (from mouse to Homo Sapiens-in a string). This is pretty much the premise to the story: the discovery of remains of a civilisation from 150 million yrs ago. The novel is well written, especially the narrative. The ancient people dialog is excellent, the modern day dialog needs a tiny bit of work, but overall a great book and I'll be watching the author and buy the next one as soon as available. Can't wait for more...We need more paleo dig stories like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't touch this!
Well written, good character development and not a vampire to be seen. Interesting story lines - really two books in one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nailed It
You won't be able to stop thinking about this book. A rarely successful blending of two enthralling tales. Be ready for less sleep.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly researched
Illustrating little knowledge or familiarity with archaeological sites or funding thereof. Without that grounding the rest is so much fluffy sci-fi. Intriguing theory, however. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting enough to finish the book
Enjoyed this book and would even call it a page turner. There was enough (made up) history and archeology to keep you interested.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
It was a little slow to get into, but definitely became more interesting. Actually, the story within the story was the best part, and I would have enjoyed it even more if the whole... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story
Matt Turner can see the history of an object by touching it. Which seems great unless you have lived your life being exploited by your father-the homicide detective. Read more
