Verse with all the invention of Clive James' prose style, combined with a sense of rhythm, cadence and memorable form that is equally and entirely his own. Following the publication of his 1986 collection, "Other Passports", he has emerged as a prominent poet of his generation, going to publish new works in such mainstream outlets as the TLS, the London Review of Books, the Spectator, the New Yorker and the Australian Book Review, culminating in this updated collection.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'Clive James is a true poet. Line after line of his has a characteristic personal tone, a kind of end-stopped singingness which is almost independent of what it says' Peter Porter, London Review of Books

5.0 out of 5 stars versatility of verse and more, October 19, 2011

This review is from: Book of My Enemy (Hardcover)
What a finely tuned ear to the idioms of the English language. James is a poet who shows, in Hazlitt's terms, "gusto". There is a playfulness here and a performance in a multitude of poetic possibilities.
