It is a reference, not a novel,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others (Paperback)
This book seems to have been mistunderstood by some to be a novel. It is not a novel but instead a type of reference for use before, during or after you read the actual novels included in the "Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis himself. This book includes lovely illustrations of main and secondary characters and gives some specifics that would otherwise have been missed by some readers when reading the novels. This book may not be for all, but a definate "must" for any fan of the "Narnia" series who would like a deeper look into the inhabitants of the land created by Lewis. This is also a good reference book to use when discussing the novels in a small group/classroom setting.

A wonderful resource for all Narnia readers,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others (Paperback)
A book of Narnians is a must-have for all Narnia fans. Pauline Baynes's illustrations put all the Narnians right in your hands. Even though the map in the back is not completely accurate, (I'm very picky) the references and drawings, along with short summaries of the characters are wonderful to have. Though nothing is as fantastic to read as the Chronicles, this is a well written easy read book for all those who want a deeper view of the Narnians and their world. Keep it close by while reading the Chronicles, so you can "zoom in" on the characters and their personalities!

This is a beautifully written book, probably written for children, but totally enjoyable for grown ups.

A book of Narnians is a beautifull guide to the Chronicles.,

If you are planning to read The Chronicles of Narnia this book would be an excellent guide. It describes each of the enchanting characters such as Puddleglum, Aslan and the White Witch in detail to help you understand them more. It really brings what you read in the Chronicles... together, and with a map and timeline it really helps you to understand what Lewis is writing about. With beautiful illustrations and an enchanting text with quotes from Lewis himself, it is an excellent book even on it's own.

Alright, though you're better off reading the Narnia Series.,

This review is from: A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others (Hardcover)
Hello, don't worry peoples, I have read every book in the Narnia Series well over three times, and I know what I'm talking about here. This book has lovely pictures, and even though the text is taken from the books, it just doesn't quite fit. The best things are not the main pages of the book, but instead The Cast of Characters and the timeline. Those are much more useful to you. I only recommend this if you love Narnia, but I'd advise you to go with the paperback edition, and never touch it again if you hate it. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because of the Cast of Characers and the timeline. Remember, only buy it if you are a devoted fan of Narnia, like I am, though I'm sure you'll like the book series better.

A book to read BEFORE reading the Chronicles of Narnia...,

This review is from: A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others (Hardcover)
This 80+ page little book is, not only, a MUST read BEFORE introducing a child to the Chronicles of Narnia, but also, a great book to keep around WHILE READING the series. The book is a compilation of all the various characters a child encounters within the series. It briefly describes the character and also provides a nice illustration/pic of the character so that the child can become familiar with the various characters. The book also contains a nicely drawn map of the entire geography of Narnia so that a child may "get in his/her mind" the location of the events within the stories as they happen, thus making the book ideal to have on hand WHILE READING through the actual books. I would recommend, A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others, to all children and parents for a foundational introduction to the series and as a insightful companion to keep on hand while reading through the series.

The book is very interesting, I liked the theme of The Chornicles of Narnia. You have to read "The Magicians Nephew" before you read any others. The theme is very creative and you are never sure of what is going to happen. The author has done a very good job at describing everything, especially Aslan. I love how Narnia "looks" in the story. I will read it again if I had to.

A book that should be left alone.,

This review is from: A Book of Narnians: The Lion, the Witch and the Others (Hardcover)
A big downfall for this book is it takes so long before it has anything suspenseful. You can read the first half of the hole book and not want to read another page. It has no action scenes to speak witch would get your attention and give you some hope the book gets better. This truth to this is that it does not get better and there are no action scenes to be seen in the first half of the novel. There is some hope that there is some type of moral message or something that would educate you in this book but there is not. After your done reading this book it leaves you thinking "What was the meaning of this story". You may ponder that for a while then you will come up with a answer "What not to look for in a book". There is really no moral message to the story and you learn nothing.
