Gorgeous!,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Book of Princesses (Paperback)
This is one of my five-year-old daughter's favourite books. The classic stories (Cinderella, Snow White, The Princess and the Pea, The Frog Princess and Sleeping Beauty) come up fresh in this retelling but the best thing about this book is the wonderful illustrations. Sally Gardner has an eye for detail -- and a fabulous dress sense! The stories are all set at different times, so the Real Princess (the one with the pea) is a flapper while Cinders is a Regency beauty. Every little girl who dreams of being a princess will love this book.

This is such a darling book. My daughter loves anything about princesses and this book has five of her favorite stories in it. The illustrations are fabulous too!

I bought this book in England back in 2001 before I was even married because I loved the artwork. Each princess story is set in a different time. Cinderella-1700s; Frog Princess- early 1800s (think Jane Austen); Sleeping Beauty- 1400s; Princess and the Pea- 1920s; Snow White- not sure...late 1800s? Now that I am married and have a daughter (3 years old), this is one of our favorite bedtime stories. We usually only read a few of the stories in each sitting.
