About the Author
Dr. Tom Smith in the founder and director of the Raccoon
Institute, which offers consultation and training in the theory and practice of challenge education. He is the author of six books and has published over 100 professional papers. He is a frequent presenter at regional, national,and international conferences on humanistic psychology, experiential education, special education, therapeutic recreation, corporate training and leadership development. His orientation has always been toward growth and learning, and he has long explored the potentials of outdoor therapy and challenge / adventure education. In 1997, Dr. Smith was honored by the Association for Experiential Education's Kurt Hahn Award, recognizing him as an important and life long leader in the field.
Dr. Jim Cain is the author of the award winning adventure-based text Teamwork & Teamplay, which received the Karl Rohnke Creativity Award presented by the Association for Experiential Education (AEE). In the past five years, he has presented programs and workshops in more than 36 states and 9 countries, and generally has more toys and a library of adventure-based books larger than that of many developing nations.
