5.0 out of 5 stars This is AWESOME!!!!!! BUY IT!, October 15, 2009
This review is from: The Book of Revelation (The Smart Guide to the Bible Series) (Paperback)
I have been doing in depth Bible study for 7 years and have tried a couple of commentaries. I always pray before I do any study and ask the Holy Spirit to open my heart to receive God's word FIRST as I read the Bible scriptures and really ponder over what God is trying to teach me. It is after that I sometimes look to my footnotes at the bottom of my Bible or additional info in a commentary (I really stopped using them because I never found one that captured my attention or was easy to read) for more understanding. In addition to my NIV I also use a duel Bible that has the NIV and The Message versions side by side. I will have to say though that THIS BOOK "Smart Guide" has been MOST helpful to me and scripturally solid. I feel like the author is not biased and explores different interpretations in this most challenging book of the Bible. There are so many different views. It's very informational!!! BUY IT! It is very easy reading. In fact I want to buy the whole line!!!!! HOWEVER.... Never let any book take the place of what we are to focus on and dive into. ~The Bible.~ Any book that explains the Bible must be proven with the scriptures. Be very careful to listen to the Holy Spirit when studying.

5.0 out of 5 stars REVELATION FOR THE BIBLICALLY INEPT, January 17, 2008

This review is from: The Book of Revelation (The Smart Guide to the Bible Series) (Paperback)
The entire series of Biblically inept (Smart Guide) are awesome. For those who need it in simple terms, for preachers who want to explain it as simple as possible these books are great. The Bible tells us to make it plain and in all our getting get an understanding. With this series you and accomplish what the Bible says. I love the commentaries inside, the way that the Scriptures are broken down in simple terms. I love the comics that are attached and the graphics used. I love how it draws you
into the Word of God and they are truly enjoyable. Highly recommended to anyone who loves the Word of God.

God Bless you and Thank You!

This is the best book I have found to study the Bible book of Revelation. It takes you through all 22 chapters, verse by verse. If you want to know what Revelations is about, this is the book to have and use. It has lots of study helps and references to help you to interpret this book of the Bible. It has quotations from many of the current-day escatology preacher's. You will have a better understanding of the End Times, the Middle East, the Rapture and many other subjects. And, it even has a quick quiz at the end of each chapter, to help in retaining the information. If you don't know the answers, the answers are in the back of the book.

Our Bible study group is using these books to learn more about the book of Revelation. It is the hardest book of the Bible to understand. This study book is a very valuable asset. It has been so helpful and contains a lot of information about for each verse. This book is a must for Bible Study groups! This is a "keeper"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Study Guide for the Book of Revelation, December 20, 2010
This review is from: The Book of Revelation (The Smart Guide to the Bible Series) (Paperback)
The author, Daymond R. Duck, does a great job of providing an exegetical study of the Book of Revelation. He walks you through each verse, one by one, and provides helpful commentary and explanation. He presents the interpretation from a premillenial, dispensational and pretribulational viewpoint, which, in my opinion, is good theology and agrees with many Bible prophecy experts, some of whom I am lucky enough to call friends. The list would include, but is not limited to, Tim LaHaye, John Walvoord, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, David Reagan, Mark Hitchcock, Thomas Ice, Grant Jeffrey, and many others.

In other words, the author believes Jesus will return before the millennium and literally be on earth for His millennial reign; that God deals with the Church and Israel differently; and that the Rapture will occur before the tribulation. Thus, he believes the Rapture is an imminent event that could happen at any time (as depicted in the Left Behind series co-authored by Tim LaHaye).

Moreover, he notes that we should be watching for end-times events and that Christians should especially pay attention to Israel, because God's Word clearly foretells that Israel will have a prominent role in the end times. On that note, his hermeneutics is in agreement with the belief that scripture should usually be interpreted in a literal sense, as opposed to falsely trying to "allegorize" text when doing so is not necessary and would only expose the interpretation to debate. Dr. D.L. Cooper's explanation of the best way to interpret the Bible is commonly referred to as the Golden Rule of Interpretation:

"When the plain sense of scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore, take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning unless the facts of the immediate context, studied in the light of related passages and axiomatic and fundamental truths, indicate clearly otherwise."

The author often quotes other experts in the field of eschatology, which helps lend credibility to the interpretation and ensure he is not just providing "his" viewpoint. His endnotes are copious and generously give other authors credit for ideas and reference.

The book is full of cross references, charts, and other visual aids to help the reader. The book also features some charts in Appendix A, answers to questions that were asked in each chapter in Appendix B, and a list of experts in Appendix C. It also has an index at the back to help one jump to a particular topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accepting Christ is so simple!, October 22, 2010

I have read Revelations four times out of two Bibles, but this book has explained it to where I understand more than I would have ever learned in just reading the Bibles only. I plan on reading King David smart guide next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Improved understanding of text, July 4, 2010

This review is from: The Book of Revelation (The Smart Guide to the Bible Series) (Paperback)
My Sunday School class spent 4 months on revelations and drew from many sources for learning. The explainations in this book are sound in interpetation and the interpetation explained with clear reasons and sources. The use of Aramaic-Greek references validates many opinions stated. Also the clarifications of statements previously unclear due to their age and cultural antiquation are validated by bringing out ancient meanings, cultural references (Jewish-Greek)and common sayings of the period. Much I thought to be hidden indeed was clarified by use of language, period precise cultural references and other validating bibical texts. At the age of 62 I now have had "most" of the revelations explained clearly. I have avoided this book of the Bible for many years due to it's complexity. Now I have an excellent guide for study and review. Not only worth the read, it should be required reading for all Christians.
