5.0 out of 5 stars Divine information for Christian dating.
The Book of Romance allowed me to understand what GOD wants me to know about relationships besides that fornication is wrong. I've read the Song of Solomon multiple times and I never really understand what it was that GOD wanted to get from it. Tommy Nelson broke each verse down and gave me a deeper insight on love, sex and intimacy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting...in spots, corny in others
When the book sticks to the content of the Bible's Song of Solomon, it's fairly good. When the author tries to take certain passages and make them into sweeping dating advice...well that's certainly different territory.

Some of this writer's (a pastor) knowledge about the background of the Song of Solomon makes for interesting reading. But a substantial portion of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read. God cares about your romance., October 19, 1999
This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
This book wonderfully describes how God cares about our love lives, sex lives and romance. In the beauty that love, sex and romance was intended Tommy Nelson leads a discussion on what God intended our love to be. The questions at the end of each chapter keep you from being a passive reader. They guide you to really discover what you believe and how to experience real love. My fiancée and I went through the book and tape series as we moved from friendship to courting to engagement. We have given and recommended the book to many couples and singles. We will return to the book throughout our married life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Things that everyone needs to hear, December 16, 1999

This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
This is a refreshing approach to relationships from a Biblical perspective. I was pleasantly suprised that there were actually applicable verses of scripture regarding dating, marriage, and intimacy. Nelson is witty and captivating. this is a book that everyone who is young, old, married, single, or thinking about marrying or dating should read. Nelson also offers tips for spicing up your marriage God- style. I only wish I could have read this sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best Resource Available Today for Dating & Marriage, February 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
Having attended the Song of Solomon series Tommy taught at Metro Bible Study in Dallas, I was thrilled to see this powerful study available in book form. I wish this teaching had been available to me when I was a teenager and young adult. My choices would have been different, and I would have been saved from deep pain and much grief. See what God has to say on the subjects of love, dating, marriage, and sex in classic Tommy Nelson style: an easy read, straight to the point, laced with humor, and from the heart. Don't miss this book. Read it and pass it on to those you love (young, old, married, single, divorced). You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Godly Relationship Guide, August 10, 2002

This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
Tommy Nelson is a Texas pastor who has developed a series on relationships from the Song of Solomon. The Book of Romance follows very closely his video series and his conferences. It moves through all stages of a romantic relationship from dating to courting to engagement and to having a successful marriage. He addresses many issues that are seldom touched upon on Sunday mornings. The first few chapters of the book are a practical guide through the premarital stages of a relationship and how to know when to and when not to carry on those relationships. It is applicable to people of all ages from those just beginning to date and to those in a long marriage. Nelson analyzes the Song of Solomon in all its poetic and sensual detail. One gets the full sense of longing and romantic desires between Solomon and his bride. It will also leave you with a longing for your own significant other. The Book of Romance will energize any marriage and give guidance to anyone struggling with his or her marriage or in a dating relationship. I bought the book half way through one of Nelson's conferences with a desire to know more of God's perspective on love, sensuality, and sexuality. He does hold to the idea of wives submitting to and following their husbands as leaders, but any couple that applies the principles in the Book of Romance to their relationship will grow stronger, closer to each other, and closer to God. I would also recommend the video series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly an amazing and deep book!, February 1, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
I recently read through Song of Solomon truly paying attention for the first time. It was an incredibly romantic and poetic read. Then I found this book and read through it, only to find that I had missed SO MUCH in Song of Solomon and the meaning behind what was said! This book is amazing, and Tommy Nelson teaches it in plain english and doesn't resort to "preacherspeak" so many other authors go for. This would make an excellent Bible study for any singles' group interested in talking about proper dating, courtship, marriage, and beyond. This is, by far, the best Christian book I've read in a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars you've read the book -- now hear Tommy, April 18, 2002
This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
My wife and I attend Denton Bible Church (where Tommy Nelson is the pastor), have read the book, and have listened to and seen the audio and DVD versions of the conference that form the basis of this book. This message/book will REVOLUTIONIZE and REVITALIZE your marriage, as well as prepare you for marriage. Give the book and/or the tapes to your spouse, your soon-to-be-married friends, singles, young adults, older couples ... anyone who needs a proper and fresh and refreshing perspective on life, love and marriage. Get the 1991 audio series (LOVE SONG) from www.dentonbible.org or get the 1995 series which is also on videotape and DVD at www.thesongofsolomon.com (Hudson Productions). When so many people get married for all the wrong reasons, this book (and audio/video message) presents a greatly-needed teaching on what marriage is and could be and should be - from a man who has lived what he teaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wise book, December 6, 2002

This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
I generally refrained from reading the Song of Solomon because I didn't understand it - until now.
Tommy Nelson uses his keen wit and delight in biblical history to explain the Bible's most frequently mis-understood book - the Song of Solomon.
This is one of the most prized books in my evergrowing collection.
If you are looking at understanding what the world's wisest man has to say about Love, Sex and Intimacy and how it can/should be applied to your relationship or marriage today - don't hesitate to purchase this.
It took me awhile to pick up the book because I thought it would be a dry "thou shalt not" book - it's completely the opposite. It talks about "thou shall" especially if you are married.
If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have read it five years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Guide for Living--A Must Read, December 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex, and Intimacy (Hardcover)
I am highly recommending this book to all of my friends, especially those in the ministry. Often times we look everywhere for answers that God has already provided in His word. Through an analysis of Song of Solomon, Tommy Nelson answers questions most everyone has about relationships and how to make them last. His book provides subtle reminders that everything we need and everything we need to know has already been planned and outlined for us. And for total fulfillment we need only consult God's word and follow His plan.
