An Awakening!, June 25, 2007
This review is from: The Book of Rude and Other Outrages (Paperback)
The Book of Rude is not nightstand material, it's an awakening ... and, yes, something of a rude one. But readers who don't mind a little Rude as long as it's Real will appreciate this eye-opening volume. Personally, I've had the opportunity (as a friend of the editor) to read these stories, sketches, poems, and notebook entries several times now, and they get better with each reading. Despite never reaching his potential as a writer, author Stephan Sure left us with several stories that are just about perfect: insightful, shocking, hilarious, suspenseful, heart-breaking, and deftly composed. Taken out of the context of The Book of Rude, much of the other content might be dismissed as ephemera, but as a setting for the polished pieces it makes an alluring and durable fabric. Also included are photos and a biographical epilog by Sure's father and expert editor, Charles Suhor. Highly Recommended.
