A great book... in its time. Check out the 2nd edition.,

This review is from: The Book of SCSI (Paperback)
This was a great book in its time. It helped introduce me to SCSI, and I learned a lot from it. Unfortunately, it is 5 years old now and SCSI has changed dramatically --for the better-- since then. I have been anxiously waiting for an update, and am excited that one is finally on its way in March 2000. IF you are thinking about getting this book, I STRONGLY recommend you wait until the 2nd edition (ISBN: 1886411107) is released in March -- or pre-order it. At this point, this book is more of a history lesson than a technical guide. (PS, if not for the outdating of this book, it'd be a 5 star rating)

Very thorough implementers and users guide,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of SCSI (Paperback)
The Book of SCSI provides a very thorough introduction to the implementation and operation of the SCSI bus. It covers all of the SCSI operations, including signal timing on the bus, and clearly differentiates between SCSI features that normally confuse users. If I was doing anything with the SCSI bus, this book would be on my desk. The only drawback from my perspective is the heavily PC-oriented focus in the implementation section (more Unix information would be nice). An update providing more current information on SCSI-3 would be helpful.

This book is easy to read, but the information provided is very old (in computer years.) Most of the most common forms of SCSI today, such as LVD, are not even mentioned. This book needs a major update.
