Book Description

April 1, 2002
A comprehensive biographical dictionary of saints canonized by the Roman Catholic Church, it names over 10,000 saints, including all modern ones, with significant information about their lives and achievements.

This is the first comprehensive dictionary of saints in any language for seventy years. The last edition of this book, published in 1970, included very few entries for those recently beatified and canonized and almost none for those honored by Pope John Paul II. Unlike other books of saints which are selective, this one is rigorously comprehensive and historically objective.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"An excellent source of biographical information on the saints...This edition is a very up-to-date resource which contains entries for all who have been canonized or beatified by the Church to date...Libraries will want this exceptional book to modernize their reference collections on the saints."
Catholic Library World

"...'a comprehensive biographical dictionary' edited by Basil Watkins OSB, has a hundred illustrations and ten thousand saints. If sanctity could be purchased or pondered by pounds and ounces, this book is twice the bargain..."-- Philip C. Fischer, Review for Religious, Vol. 66, 2007 (Review For Religious )
