Dopest 2003 Wu-Tang Release,
By
This review is from: Book of Shabazz (Hidden Scrollz) (Audio CD)
At least Shabazz still knows what he's supposed to bring and how to bring it to the longtime, hardcore Wu-Tang fans. Lately fans like myself have been disappointed with the recent Rae, Ghost, Meth & U-God releases. It seems to me the generals don't care much anymore about their old fans who supported them through the beginning of their careers. They now rather release mass appeal commercial albums that have little lyrical content and many wack beats. Shabazz or Warcloud should take ODB's spot in the group, talk some sense into the rest and show em again how to do it right.

I don't really fnck wit horror-core, but I've been told this dude used to be down w/Gravediggaz. N/e wayz the album sounds like a Wu-affiliated joint. Its got RIDICULOUS, hypnotic beats. In my opinion, just b/c a rapper claims underground or does something different then the norm (see: Outkast, various NY nuccaz) does not make them dope. But this dude is crazy lyrically and his songs fnck wit ur head, specially if u smoke de ganja. Worth coppin'.

The Long Awaited,
By
This review is from: Book of Shabazz (Hidden Scrollz) (Audio CD)
People expecting all his songs to be dark and horrorcoremay be disappointed. But what I love about Shabazz, Killah Priest and even Swollen Members is the variety. There's nothing genuine about everey song being dark. That's not life. We all have good and bad days. So if it's crime saga which talks about being weary of the street. Or Red Hook Day that shows a love for hip-hop and is more upbeat and cheerful. If you value the lyric over the beat or any other crap that some people use to pick there music. You will not be let down. Overall this is poetrey in motion and Battle Axe is improving it's standing as one of the top level independent labels.

No Flash in the Pan,
By
This review is from: Book of Shabazz (Hidden Scrollz) (Audio CD)
Finally...A better word could not have been chosen to introduce this long-awaited album. Shabazz the Disciple is no flash in the pan. For the past decade he's been churning out one incredible track after another. The trouble is, most of his stuff has been on vinyl. If you put together all his wax you could easily have enough material for yet another fabulous full-length. Tracks like BKBS, Street Parables and different versions of Crime Saga on The Book of Shabazz have all been previously released on vinyl. (Good luck finding them!) On CD, a track called Death Be the Penalty on the compilation Underground Hip Hop can still be found. He is best known for his appearance on Gravediggaz releases which are also still accessible. Shabazz the Disciple has the rawest and most unique voice in rap today. Tinged with a cutting brooklyn accent, his gravelly commentary never gets dry. The beats that back him up are hard like old school, stripped down to a focused pulse with a sharp kick. His lyrics are keenly intelligent without doing away with the fierce slang that gives gangsta rap its edge. To evoke a particularly dramatic and violent effect, Shabazz uses religous imagery in the content of his lyrics. His lyrical style serves to recreate the mind-altering experience of a spiritual awakening. Much of the songs have a mythical and cataclysmic feel about them. Indeed, the haven of his ideas shelter the dark and apocalyptic aspects of religion. As the scroll of Shabazz's mind unfolds on this CD, becoming increasingly sicker and more ferocious with each new track, you'll feel as if the evils of your soul are being exorcised. I cannot say enough about this MC, who is probably the most underrated talent in hip-hop I can think of. The Book of Shabazz (Hidden Scrollz), could do for this impoverished era of hip-hop what Ice Cube and the Geto Boys did for rap in the early nineties. comments:oliverlodge@hotmail.com

The Book Of Shabazz was well mastered produced, the lyrics along with the melody makes a master recorded album. Each song is professionally organized , its format and concept makes any listener anticipate more. The Skits are definitely parts of biblical events. The Master Recorder knows what listeners go through in finding an ablum such as the "Hidden Scrolls". "Hip Hop" gives it's listeners the uptown God and Goddess club, its a smooth upbeat with a horns on the back ground. This album is never dull , shabazz shows his genuine mircophone skills on The "Organized Rime Pt. 2" He has Naz on the break that is tremendous when i first heard it. You have "Ghetto Apostles", featuring Poetic, Freestyle, and R.H. Bless, This is definitely a mix who love gravediggaz, This song could have been 10 minutes long . I laughed and reminisced on the "Ghetto Apostles", it has knowledge from the beginning and to the present. "The Lambs Blood" is very much similar to what i wrote about the ghetto apostles, i can keep writing to tell you what songs i like but it would just be spoiling your ears. The Book Of Shabazz is a must album for conscious rap.
