5.0 out of 5 stars The songs get into your mind and dont leave.
When I play Coven13's Book of Shadows I know that the spirit of musical force is being evoked. Each song on this incredible CD is vivid and powerfilled , reaching into the very heart of magick itself. The Book of Shadows CD has got to be one of best CDs I have bought in a very very long Time.I swear the music , the stories , the people they write about are all alive and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Witch hype!
I bought the CD. Without all the Pagan attentions this would be nothing more than glorified elevator music set to midi guitars and a drum set. I heard that the singer was the only pagan/witch , and is no longer with this group.( I guess it is hard to be the only believer in a group that is full of wanna-bes) Where is the all the magick.... Try again....better luck next...

4.0 out of 5 stars Coven 13, with or without the "witch" hype - it's good music, January 17, 2001

I found Book of Shadows to be an interesting blend of many things. For the pagan, there are themes woven within the lyrics to satisfy. For the non-pagan there is great musical arrangement and thought provoking lyrics. The range of style in the music found on this CD proves the talents of those involved with creating it. One of the things I appreciate most is that the songs in both music and lyrics provoke thought. I have read recent negative reviews by "pagans" admonishing Coven 13 for not being "direct" enough with their "paganism". I have to disagree. I think by being less direct, they open the door to people who are also not pagan. Therefore not limiting themselves or their audience. I have to disagree with another couple of recent reviews (that really sound more like personal "sour grapes" than reveiws) that praise the singer and mock the musician. This CD, although far from perfect is well put together, the composer is obviously highly learned in her art and the singer is obviously talented as well. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who likes something new and doesn't mind having thought provoked while listening to great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magikal Journey into a Magikal World, October 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Book of Shadows (Audio CD)
Stepping inside the Book of Shadows through Coven 13's eyes, I was immediately swept up by an enchanting whirl of emotions. The haunting sounds played with my mind while the mesmerizing words enveloped my soul. I felt like I was on a...well...Carnival Ride! Book of Shadows is indeed a must hear album. The feeling and energy put into these melodies will dive down into your deepest thoughts and open up the most closed mind. While all the songs tweaked my plaesure nerve, my favorite has to be Ophelia's Lament. This song made chills run down my spine and my heart beat double-time. A huge thank you to Teisen and Amanda for their music and energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mystical Vacation Without Leaving Home, January 16, 2001

Winter, doldrums on Cape Cod....wishing to change my attitude, location. Bought Book of Shadows...I'm in heaven!...The music changed my mind, brought me to another sphere, elevated my broken spirit and mended my negative approach. From wence does this inspiration derive? Introduce me to the muse which guided such songs as "Ophelia's Lament", "In Heaven", "Haunted".

That butterfly walking the keyboard, working it into a frothy surf on a fog laden day, that mysterious wind suddenly appearing to skuttle dry oak leaves along the cobblestones, that lonesome echo of the wild grey wolf, returned to his empty lair....I was spellbound, simply enchanted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and magickal!, September 10, 1999

Listen to the song Haunted, and you can feel the passion for a love that can never be... I am enraptured by the mystic poetry and powerful melodies of Salem's own Coven13. They combine gothic melodies with pop sensibilities in a way that makes the songs extremely listenable. When I put this CD in, it stays on repeat for days.

I loved the music on this CD! The music is wonderfully enchanting and stayed with me long after listening....especially "Ophelia's Lament". This CD is totally awesome inspite of the lead vocal's lack of variety.

I've listened to much music in my many years, from Mozart to Kabuki to Beatles to Elvis to ethnic to Coven13, and I must say that this album creates musical atmospheres that are exquisitely pleasurable to feel as well as hear. The vocals and instrumentals are professional in their musicality and deserve a listening. A unique musical experience awaits you.

Listening to This Cd drew me into a world view that is filled with light, shadows, and various hues of emotional themes.I was doubtful at first, however I have found that Coven13's spell has made me a believer. They tell of life , as it might be, if magic and spells really did exsist . I can see what others mean by the hidden "magic" that these tales hold. Ophelia's Lament is my favorite.(We all have been there) Coven13's Book of Shadows , to me is best desricbed as a darkly lit fairy tale in a world of musical tapestries where love and hope win .

Haunting melodies, soul searching lyrics, and terrific vocals.

I was originally sceptical (From the name I was expecting heavy-metal) but all it took was one listen, and I was hooked.

I would unreservedly recommend this album to any listener with an 'ear' for the passionate!
