5.0 out of 5 stars One of best books on soups
There are exactly 110 soup recipes in this book, all of which are truly exquisite. The illustrations are great - every recipe comes with 3 illustrations and a photo of the finished product. It contains some classic recipes, such as the Chinese crab and sweetcorn soup, the Egyptian lentil soup, the French onion soup, and several others. It also offers a great variety...

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty fishy
I got this book because it seemed to be hard to find a thorough soup book with good pictures (I'm a firm believer in recipe books being beautiful pieces of photographic art). And this one does - great pictures!

The introductory information regarding soups is extremely helpful.

But there are an awful lot of fish soups and some other soups that...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of best books on soups, August 4, 2000
This review is from: The Book of Soups (Paperback)
There are exactly 110 soup recipes in this book, all of which are truly exquisite. The illustrations are great - every recipe comes with 3 illustrations and a photo of the finished product. It contains some classic recipes, such as the Chinese crab and sweetcorn soup, the Egyptian lentil soup, the French onion soup, and several others. It also offers a great variety of very innovative soups, such as the cool cherry soup, omlette soup, pesto soup, and a pumpkin soup. The chapters are divided as cold soups, fish soups, cheese and egg soups, grain soups, vegetable soups, meat and poultry, and special occasion soups.

There will be no surprises with this cookbook featuring soups from around the globe- No bad surprises that is! Each recipe is accompanied by delightful photographs showing each step-by-step instruction.

All the instructions for recipes such as Passatelli, Pesto Soup, Pavia Soup, Shrimp Bisque and Pumpkin Soup are clear and easy to follow as well as those for old favorites like French Onion. So why wait?

I absolutely love this soup book, its a must-have for every kitchen especially as we head into another cold winter! The recipes are well illustrated and easy to follow - except for one thing...
Could someone out there PLEASE explain to me what "half and half" is? Maybe I have a disadvantage being British but I have not heard of this term before and it is preventing me from making some of my favourite dishes.

The introductory information regarding soups is extremely helpful.

But there are an awful lot of fish soups and some other soups that while look pretty seem inedible. This book would be for the gourmet not the everday. Apparently I just want the pics to be works of art, but the soup itself to not be. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well impressed, June 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Book of Soups (Hardcover)
I am a first time user of Amazon and was well impressed! I bought a 2nd hand book costing $2.99 that looked newer than a new book! Well impressed again. They said it would take anything up to 6 weeks to arrive, it arrived within 10 days.....once again really well impressed! I will definitely use Amazon again.
Thank you for your excellent service.
