Good For Beginners,
This review is from: The Book of Spells: Over 40 Secret Recipes to Get Your Own Way in Love, Work, and Play (Hardcover)
This book is a good way to learn about craft and is a good book for people who know more than a little about "witchcraft", or a good book for kids who know a lot more, and want to do some really kick a** spells... but its not a good book for VERY experianced "witches". I reccomend this book because it has spells that really work, but they only work if you are serious, and are good at concentrating and BEING serious, not being wild and hiper during the spell... it is only for mature people who know what they are doing... It does require you go out shopping once in a while, or go to parks and get materials, but most of the things are things that most people already have on hand... Buy this book but be carful and use them right. HAVE FUN! ;)

Hard for beginners,

This review is from: The Book of Spells: Over 40 Secret Recipes to Get Your Own Way in Love, Work, and Play (Hardcover)
This book looks very cute to display, but has very difficult spells, that require items such as a moonstone or gold or silver coins, and other things that can't be found around the house. It's not a good first time book, especially for someone like me who wanted a spell book to start with. It's illustrated with cartoons, and doesn't seem liek it will actually show any resutls. A good gift for a non-believer.

I fell in love with this book instantly. It is beautifully illustrated with lots of little tid bits of information like numerology, color association, etc... explains symbolism well and the spells are simple, descriptive and perfectly reflect the energy and beauty behind magic. A good mixture of spells for different occasions. A treasure!

I am very new at spell casting, and this book is a very simple read. It really works! I have performed three of the spells in the book with great success. Try it out, it is a wonderful book! I gave it five stars because it really changed my life, plus it has very interesting historical facts as well. Nicola De Pulford, thank you. Trust me, buy this book, and you will be saying the same.

cute, pretty, but not a keeper...,
This review is from: The Book of Spells: Over 40 Secret Recipes to Get Your Own Way in Love, Work, and Play (Hardcover)
i enjoyed getting this book out of the library to look at, but it just wasn't a keeper, although being an artist i'm tempted to buy it simply for it's design qualities. the spells are good, yes, but it's really a book aimed at dabblers who want something that looks *magickal*. it was a fun read, but not worth the money. ah well, eh? ^_^

Not worth the money,

While this book is very nice looking, it's not truly helpful. The spells are foolish, and probably best suited for those who aren't familiar with the practice. Why? Because the spells themselves aren't practical, and in my opinion, are poorly written. While the author chooses to contantly preach about the ethics of practicing witchcraft this book would be best suited to 'fluffy bunnies'. Perhaps some of the spells are workable, but it's not necessary to have use such impractical materials. Personally, I think if you choose to purchase this book you'll find it much more useful if you simply take any ideas you might like and incorporate them into a spell you've written; you'll probably get more accomplished this way.

This book has two redeeming values. 1) It's very pretty like others have mentioned the pictures are all very fun and magical 2) It includes spells from MANY cultures and systems. Almost everything on the market today sticks to just one culture but this book had Celtic, Native American, German, Middle Eastern, etc. Also the little sections on all types of magic were cute. I think this book is a fun addition for someone who's getting a little tired of doing the same old thing everytime they work magic. It spices it up a bit.

I love the way this book looks. Just looking through the pictures is spell-binding enough! My friends (who practice magick as well) love the informative and useful spells given. Definatly worth it if you have any knowledge at all about the craft.

Puff Pastry,

I can think of one function this book might serve well: as table top "puff pastry". Ever had puff pastry? It's full of air with no real substance. This book reminds me of something a pseudo-craft person might use to convince everyone they are a "Witch". (You in the craft know what I'm referring to...those who enter the craft for all the wrong reasons, who want to impress people, and do no real work to gain knowledge) I'm sorry, I hate being negative, but if you are seeking lots of pretty pictures complete with a snazzy little "bow" to tie the book closed-this fills the bill. Kudos to the Graphic Design team, who did the layout, it displays very well. (My college degree is in Graphic Design) If you are seriously seeking spell work, I suggest you try other books. Morgana

Yes, this book is pretty. YES, it is a compilation of spells et al primary designed to show the author's ability to compile things.NO, it's not very useful. These spells are based on some silly ideas about how magick works, and while this book may make a good coffee table decoration, it's not a workbook and not useful as practice. |
