As a "Spell Collector" of sorts, this book was a nice and cheap treat. The introduction is pretty short and to the point, and if you are serious about the religions that are often hidden behind spell craft, I suggest other books. Stil, Johnstone presents exactly what the cover says, and then some. Most of the spells are pretty rational, and do not require expensive and hard to find ingredients, which is a major plus. The small amount of info Johnstone gives also can help in developing and creating your own spells and rituals. My only complaints are his somewhat inaccurate information on history (namely on witches and Wicca), and his blurbs about needing specific tools. The tools are nice to have, to add to the psychotrip of casting, but aren't necessary and almost always substitutable. Still, a good find!

Very good book for the the newly engaged in such practices. Spells (no pun intended)it all out in very simple terms from A to Z and gives one the basics to a better understanding of a very old and rather mysterious religious belief system. I myself being rather ignorant of the Pagan beliefs found this book very entertaining, lighthearted and informative. The book says, practice makes perfect. It took 20 years of hard study to become a Druid, one that practiced Celtic rites and rituals so go figure.

I love this book, and use it all the time. You'll find yourself going back to it again and again.

If you are just learning the craft this is a excellent book to have. Great beginner book to introduce you to spell craft. Read and read and study. GREAT starter book.

This is an excellent book very well explain in detail each and every subject. I was delighted with all the varieties of spells plus all the information on how to do magic. It is all good, simple and it takes you to be performing spells in no time. Great Book !
