2.0 out of 5 stars Peshered out!!, March 25, 2001
By
Edward L Stang (High River, Alberta Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Book That Jesus Wrote : John's Gospel (Paperback)
I have read, Barbara Thiering's `Jesus The Man' or `Jesus and The Riddle of the Dead Sea Scrolls' and sort of enjoyed her thoughts on the pesher that may or may not have been used in the writing of the Gospels. Maybe the reason I liked her previous book was my previous ordeal in reading Robert Eisenman's `James The Brother of Jesus' and my mind was still numb. I have got to say that after reading `The Book That Jesus wrote' I AM PESHERED OUT!! Not only does she have nothing to add to her first book, Barbara Thiering has taken this pesher thing to the ridiculous degree!! I am a reasonable person and can accept that Jesus was a man, may have been married and had children and maybe did not die on the cross and that Jesus did not always see eye to eye with his disciples. Maybe the seven miracles in John were pesher for changes that Jesus made? BUT,,,,I am having a rough time accepting that absolutely everything that was written is pesher and not only a pesher but a word for word code that Barbara Thiering has discovered? When Barbara Thiering peshers God and the Holy Spirit to mean some very real and identifiable persons, one finally asks WHATS THE POINT?? Whats the secret that needs to be encrypted? The Jesus that Barbara Thiering leaves and that emerges from her pesher IS NOTHING SPECIAL and hardly worthy of the gospels and the letters that were written about him. I think that is good to keep in mind that the scriptures may make use of symbol and allegory and even pesher and there is mystery involved, BUT, don't buy everything you read. Barbara Thierings views are interesting, but one is in danger of over dosing with salt to swallow all of her stuff. Read,,,, BUT use the smarts that God gave you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, February 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Dr Thiering pulls it all together in this, her third book on the secret code in the gospels and acts. Jesus emerges as a remarkable visionary, determined to bring monotheism to a pagan world by opening up judaism to gentiles. He succeeded of course - without miracles or rising from the dead (though he had a close brush with death in Qumran on the cross) - and the reality of the politics of the day leaps off the pages.

Who would have thought that the bible would actually make sense? Dr Thiering's remarkable discovery of the secret code in the gospels, acts and revelation, bring the world of Jesus' time to life in a practical, sensible, manner which no-one expected would be possible.

As long as you have an open mind, and you can cope with the technicalities involved here, you will never see Christianity from the same light again...

5.0 out of 5 stars JESUS THE ESSENE-PESHER RIDDLE, January 22, 2001
By
This review is from: The Book That Jesus Wrote : John's Gospel (Paperback)
This book is a remarkable discovery, and very helpful in understanding the Pesher Technique. Jesus had to be The Creator to cause the words to read as we have it in the King James, yet it was quite different as it really happened. The Pesher should be explained, and what a mystery to unfold! Barbara Thiering is my favorite writer on the secret life of Jesus the Essene. Examine the meanings of the Pesher in the back of this book. It was heartbreaking to read how his hands had been damaged so that he could not ever write a book again. The heavenly languages of Jesus are so complex that his intelligence can not be written in human words. Jesus is the Master of all languages, and this book is magnificent! Also, read "Jesus the Man", which Barbara wrote. In discovering the Riddle, read "She Who Is", Elizabeth Johnson, and "Prayers to She Who Is", William Cleary, and a short, but very interesting account of a live witness of the crucifixon in "The Secret Life of Jesus the Essene", Raymond W. Bernard. It is good that John was written by Jesus, and even better that Paul was a Gnostic writer, See "The Gnostic Paul", Elaine Pagels, confirming they all were Essenes, teaching Gnosis, Jesus and Sophia, the Bride and Bridegroom.
