5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book, November 9, 2000
This review is from: Book of Tokens-Tarot Meditations (Hardcover)
This book is mediations on the 22 paths of the Tree of Life from the Qabbala as represented by the 22 Tarot trumps. It includes very nice full color plates of the tarot trumps. Each meditation is usually about 3 pages long followed by 2 pages of commentary.

This book I think is unlikely to appeal to anyone who doesn't already have at least a basic understanding of the Qabbala and the Tarot.

Second verse from the meditation on Tsaddi (the star):

"Men think they seek me, But it is I who seek them, No other seeker is there then myself, And when I find mine own, The pain of questioning is at an end. The fish graspeth the hook, Thinking to find food, But the fisherman is the enjoyer of the meal."

First verse from the mediation on Samekh (temperance):

"I AM the support of all that enter into existence. Upon me all depend. And I fail not. This have I declared unto thee in various ways, But listen now to my words again."

Each mediatation is at least several verses long. Here is the beginning of the commentary on Samekh:

"SAMEKH, pronounced sawmek. Transcribed as "S". The number 60. Meaning: Prop,Support. The Intelligence of Probation or Trial."

The commentary for each path begins like this and then is followed by specific commentary on some of the verses from the meditation.

An excellent book. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent focus for meditative purposes, November 20, 1998

This review is from: Book of Tokens-Tarot Meditations (Hardcover)
This is the most moving and spititual uplifting book I have had the good fortune to read. The work speaks in first person from each of the letters of the Hebrew alphabet; each commenting on its part in the process of creation. The prose is not only beautiful but also compliments any other reading on Kabbalah.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful edition of classic work, July 6, 2008
This review is from: Book of Tokens-Tarot Meditations (Hardcover)
Book of Tokens is a series of meditations/poems/studies covering each of the 21 Tarot Keys in turn, as well as a Prologue and an Epilogue. Each meditation, meant to be read out loud as a further aid to internalizing the message of life and love, is accompanied by some commentary on the poem as well as a gorgeous full color plate of the key.

The meditations in short are each variations of the theme that all is one, that all is God and that God is all; each separate key is one facet of one's personality or state of personal development within God, on the path to self-knowledge. As such, the meditations will involve not only Tarot but its direct relationships with Kabbalah & the Tree of Life's Sephiroth and Paths; Hebrew numerology; astrology; and aspects of Kundalini yoga. They are seamlessly wrapped up together in the poetry; each rereading becomes more meaningful.

The book will be of interest to few who are not already studying not only Tarot, but Case's particular take on Tarot, i.e. this is not to be studied for the divination devotee, but rather for the mystical and psychological aspects involved. For those that are, however, it should be noted that this edition was the first to utilize the full-color plates, and as such represents a huge leap over previous editions including only black and white plates of the keys.

It is a beautiful book, lovingly presented.
