Book Description

January 1, 1988

An insightful introduction to the pentateuchal narrative, The Book of the Torah applies trends in narratology from biblical studies, systematic theology, ethics, and hermeneutics to the study of these books. Thomas Mann presents a comprehensive interpretation of the Pentateuch as a whole rather than focusing on its composite parts. While recognizing the presence of various literary sources, he emphasizes the literary and theological coherence of larger units within each of the traditional "books," discusses the ways the books are interrelated, and explores the meaning of the first five books of the Bible as part of the complete document we call the "Torah."

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"A sound piece of work. Its holistic, final-form approach reflects the major trend in biblical criticism. It is perceptive, sensitive, thoughtful, and stimulating." David Gunn, Professor of Old Testament, Columbia Theological Seminary
"I would find this volume extremely useful in introducing my students to this basic part of the Old Testament. I am quite excited about this project." Patrick D. Miller, Professor of Old Testament, Princeton Theological Seminary

This review is from: The Book of the Torah: The Narrative Integrity of the Pentateuch (Paperback)
There has to be a book out there that is better written and easier to follow than this book. I would not recomend it to anyone.
