This review is from: The Book of U.S. Postal Exams: How to Score 95-100% and Get a Job (1999-2000 edition) (Paperback)
This book is not that great if you are taking a Postal Clerk/Carrier exam. I just took this exam on July 8, 2000. Sections # 1 (comparing addresses) and # 2 (memorizing addresses in boxes) are relatively all right. However, Bauptista offers virtually no preparation for section # 3 (numbers) and none for section # 4 (following directions). If that is the test you are taking (Clerk/Carrier) I strongly recommend Norman Hall's book. Some things Bautista says are plain strange. Quoting from the book :"When Bautista talks, people listen". What is to listen to? :O)

Two thumbs up,
This review is from: The Book of U.S. Postal Exams: How to Score 95-100% and Get a Job (1999-2000 edition) (Paperback)
After trying to take the test on my own with no guidence, and no higher grade than a 79.0%, after three attempts. I picked up the book U.S. Postal Exams "How to score a 95%-100%" as my final attempt. No other book on the shelf had a title that just jumped right out at me like this book did. I received my results and I scored a 95.6 for clerk, and a 98.0 for carrier. I was hired for the position of automation clerk. Ive been with the Postal service for two years now, and making close to 45k this year. Everyone taking the postal test should own this book. From cover to cover the book "U.S. postal exams" provides you with excellent stategies, very easy to read, bold print, plenty of practice tests, and much humor.I'm writting not to praise myself at a high mark I accomplished. But to say thankyou to the author, your a genius.

If you are preparing for Battery Exam 470, not best choice. Of the four sections on the exam, the number series and oral sections don't contain any practice exams! Stay away or get the 99-00 ed, not this 97 ed. Found ARCO the best. This book did come in useful for its pragmatic analysis and suggestions, though the #1 tip of quickly, slightly answering answer sheets is in question for me since a proctor indicated that she felt I was not 'completely' darkening the circles although I continued to practice the authors strategy. Does provide many address checking and memory-for-address sections though don't agree with the learning method for memory address. Please allow yourself the 4 practice periods which is ever so slightly mentioned in book.

I bought this book to prepare for the Electronic Technician exam, so I can't speak for all the tests that are covered. The test in the book is nothing more than an EXACT copy of the sample test that is sent with the examination announcement and you'll have plenty of time to review that before the day of the exam.

I just took my US Postal exam yesterday and I have to say that even though I felt very confident when I was done, it was in no part due to this book. Veltisezar's techniques were just common sense and did not require 400 pages and any of my money. His memorization technique was really not that great. In the middle of the test after realizing his technique was just not working I devised my own and did great. And like already stated he did not offer much help at all on the last 2 sections. If I had the time I would write a much better book than this to help people... Or at least after I know I have a USPS job. Take my advice and stay away from this book. I don't have experience with any others, but I am sure this is not the best one.

The Book of U.S. Postal Exams is an excellent book!. For instance, the 470 Battery Test is the exam for seven positions: city carrier; rural carrier; mail handler; mark-up clerk, automated; mail processor; flat-sorting machine operator; and distribution clerk, machine. And 460 exam is for associate rural carrier.I got a very high score on the 470 Battery Test and expected to be called for employment soon. Strategies for the answering the address checking and the memory-for-address test are very effective. I especially liked the techniques for scoring high on the memory-for-address test, which is very hard if you don't know the techniques. The book was recommended to me by a librarian-friend who told me that it's the most commonly-read exam book from our local library. It's best to ask your local librarian about it. This book is really loaded with tips, techniques, and strategies. No other book on postal exams can beat it! (I've seen other postal exams.) --Megan Seiber

Useless! Can't understand the hype about this book. The USPS provides most of the same information for free!!! No cross references for further study. The Dude high on himself! Eat Humble pie before he crows!!I just want the 932 and all I got the USPS so...?

Don't buy this book for 470 battery test! Its 470 batterry samples for address checking are so easy and not practical! The samples for memory for address tests are outdated and not similar to actual sample exams given by Post Office. I wasted my money on it! --- Nguyen

"Bautista provides valuable advice for passing the civil service exams necessary to obtain several U.S. Post Office jobs...This guide is a useful source of vocational guidance on a high-level topic."--Booklist, American Library Association"Your book really helped, especially the 'Bautista method' for marking score sheets, and all your tips for the memory-for-address test. So far the book is great, the sample test in the book are the same as what the recruiters at the post office gave me,but the book give me details on what to study.I'll be taking the Electronics Technician exam next week,so depending on the score,my review may be even better. Rick Reynolds
