5.0 out of 5 stars The book of all books!!
I've always been a huge Whoopi fan, and I've always thought she was amazingly funny. When I first saw this book, I had to pick it up. I flipped to the back cover to see what it was all about and ended up laughing myself all the way from the bookshelf to the checkout line and then to my car. As I attempted to read the back cover to all my friends at work, none of us...

3.0 out of 5 stars Short, funny read
Whoopi shares her views on life and gets down to the nitty gritty of things, including bodily functions. The writing perfectly captures her tone and her voice. She sounds amazingly serious and straight-faced when she discusses farting, something that no movie star of her stature would dare discuss, but Whoopi tackles the topic with her usual aplomb and humor. Personally,...

5.0 out of 5 stars The book of all books!!, March 27, 2004
This review is from: Book (Mass Market Paperback)
I've always been a huge Whoopi fan, and I've always thought she was amazingly funny. When I first saw this book, I had to pick it up. I flipped to the back cover to see what it was all about and ended up laughing myself all the way from the bookshelf to the checkout line and then to my car. As I attempted to read the back cover to all my friends at work, none of us could contain ourselves...this book is absolutely hilarious! I've read it twice, and I have two copies! I've bought it for friends as gifts, and no one has a bad word about it. The book is contagious; once you start, you can't stop, and you'll get your friends wanting to read it to. Go head, pick it up...yeah, you. The one reading this review! You know you want to read it. Give it a shot, you won't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Whoopi, Love her BOOK., April 22, 2003
This review is from: Book (Mass Market Paperback)
Past reviews have called BOOK over the top, which it is. Her views outrageous... to some they might be. Liberal? Of course. I agree with all of her opinions; I am extremely proud to be called a Liberal and I'm pretty sure Whoopi is too.

I'm Catholic but her opinions of the popes, both past and present, are totally on the mark and not offensive to anyone who has any awareness of what's going on in Rome. Read with an open mind. Whether you agree or not, Ms. Goldberg's opinions will freshen up your thoughts on a lot of subjects.

It does ramble on like one of her stand-up monologues, which is what I love so much about it. I also recommend the audiobook version so you can hear Whoopi reading her own words.

This is not high literature, I admit. But it is fresh and humorous and one of my all-time fun reads. I even named my web site after her cute name for a fart. Tree Monkey . Net

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performer., September 16, 2006
This review is from: Book (Mass Market Paperback)
"THE IDEA OF eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts in this country sends a chill down my spine and a bug up my butt. As I write this, there's a proposal kicking around to cut the NEA budget down from an already-slashed $[...] million all the way down to $[...] million...."

I reeally love Whoopi Goldberg.

I was delighted to hear more from Whoopi and this book did not disappoint me. I loved hearing about her family experiences and Christmas was really great too, heart-warming and how she duplicates their own family's idiosyncrasies to the T each year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guess you gotta love it or hate it, November 30, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Book (Hardcover)
Wow. After reading all the previous reviews, I guess you either love or hate this book. I thought it was one of the better books in the comedian-as-author genre. I could have done without quite so much toilet humor, but hey, she's a comedian, that's what they do. She wasn't trying to write the Great American Novel here. The fact that she used a ghost writer didn't bother me at all. I didn't know she had until she said so at the end of the book. The book sounded like Whoopi to me. If she needed someone's help in organizing it into a viable manuscript, so what? And as much as it pains me to say it, I have to agree with Entertainment Weekly. Whoopi, please consider writing your autobiography.

She sounds amazingly serious and straight-faced when she discusses farting, something that no movie star of her stature would dare discuss, but Whoopi tackles the topic with her usual aplomb and humor. Personally, I would like Whoopi to write a more extensive autobiography so we could learn more about her life and her struggle as a single welfare mother, and how she made it to the top in backstabbing, "Beautiful People" Hollywood. She must have an interesting life story to tell. This book only gives you a peek into the woman behind Whoopi, as it's very short but entertaining, especially if you're a Whoopi fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoopi's book cuts to the heart of every issue in life!, April 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Book (Mass Market Paperback)
I laughed, I cried , I got goosebumps over and over again. Her down to earth words made so much sense. I picked this book up on a whim, because I thought I could probably get a few laughs on my lunch hour. I was not prepared for the way it made me feel. My emotions ran the gamut. Thank you Whoopi, for putting it all into perspective. Everything that I have been feeling for so long, but could never find the voice. Definetly a must read!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Only Whoopi ..., December 17, 1997
By
This review is from: Book (Hardcover)
Only from Whoopi would you expect a book entitled Book. Her 'to the point' and sometimes raw style jumps right from the pages. It is filled with some of her most cherished views on life, sex and being American (not African American). Whether you love Whoopi or hate her, this book probably won't change your mind either way. You've heard some of the quips before ... others might raise your eyebrows quite high ... really, really high.

I was laughing so much that people on the train were staring at me. If you like Whoopi, you will like this book. There are serious parts to it but it was trully her. Granted I do know a couple things about her now that I could have gone my whole life without knowing but, it was a great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars getting inside the head of a great actress/comedienne, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Book (Mass Market Paperback)
whoopie is one of my favourite actresses and comedienne's. she's got a very blunt attitude about life, and doesn't have any problem telling you how it is. this book covers all kinds of topics from farts, to sex. you'll even find out why her nickname/name is whoopie :) again, another book written as if she is standing there talking to you, so don't expect perfect grammar, or sometimes even for it to flow like a novel, because that's not what it's about. it's about her telling stories, and telling you her opinions and thoughts on things about our lives.....that's what makes it so much fun, to see what she's thinking, and what makes her such a funny person....
