5.0 out of 5 stars The Witch you'd like to have for a neighbor
I'm not a witch. I'm an old Irish Catholic lady. I have sort of an academic interest in Solitary Witchery and Tarot. I'm a big Terry Pratchett fan, having been introduced to him a few years back by my son. I've read the Lancre Witch stories so many times, and decided to intersperse re-reading those books with witchery books, sort of imagining what that gang did on a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great:(
I am a fan of Ellen Dugan. I have read most of her books. I waited for 10 months for this book to come out. Book of Witchery is a longer winded version of "7 days of Magic". Most of what she talks about in this book is found in 7 Days of Magic. So in that regard I was a bit dissapointed. If your are looking to expand your knowledge you won't learn much more from this...

I'm not a witch. I'm an old Irish Catholic lady. I have sort of an academic interest in Solitary Witchery and Tarot. I'm a big Terry Pratchett fan, having been introduced to him a few years back by my son. I've read the Lancre Witch stories so many times, and decided to intersperse re-reading those books with witchery books, sort of imagining what that gang did on a day-to-day basis when not out saving their part of the world. This is all my bed-time reading after a stressful work day. I had to find the right kind of witchery books, though--the kind of witches that Granny and Nanny would approve of. I found two. Ellen Dugan and Marian Green. None of these fancy-schmancy witches.
Ellen is such a nice, down-to-earth writer. Nothing weird here and no Christian bashing. She has come through being the mother of teenagers without turning any of them into frogs and you have to admire a woman like that. I would say that anyone interested in reading up on Witchcraft Without Weirdness would do well to start with her. She's also a Master Gardener, so you can learn to grow plants with her too, including plants that will help you make the neighbors nervous once you tell them what they are for. That's always good for keeping pesky neighbors at a nice distance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expanded version well worth the purchase price, October 7, 2009
This review is from: Book of Witchery: Spells, Charms & Correspondences for Every Day of the Week (Paperback)
Already noted my disagreements w/ Linda's review in my comment to hers, so won't go on a lot here except to say that this version has a lot that's NOT in the 7 Days book that's made it well worth the purchase price for me. I esp like the addition of full rituals, daily meditations, daily 'witch crafts' -- something to create that embodies the energy of each day -- and the addition of a section on essential oils, potions & philters to make for each day's energies. I really liked the succinctness of the 7 Days version -- but now that I have those basic correspondeces pretty well down, I like having more to DO with them that this version offers. So I give it a thumbs up. (And besides, being Ellen Dugan, it's just a fun read!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Revision!!!, October 6, 2009

I have "7 Days of Magick" and love it - but the revision "Book of Witchery" is even better. I love the info on the god/desses assosicated with the days of the week. There are lots of spells and rituals. But the meditations alone are worth buying this revised edition.

Another great book by Ellen Dugan. I highly recommned it. A must for any natural witches library.

Most of what she talks about in this book is found in 7 Days of Magic. So in that regard I was a bit dissapointed. If your are looking to expand your knowledge you won't learn much more from this book. 7 Days of Magic is much more compact and straight to the point. My favorite is still Cottage Witchery which to me is her best work ever. I still love Ellen Dugan's work and will most definitelly read any new book she comes out with!
