5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids, either!, July 2, 2002
By
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
I'm 28 years old. I have no children. I don't even have any small children anywhere in my immediate family. And here I am, buying and writing a gushing torrent of praise for a children's book.

This is the best book in the whole world. No, really. Okay, except maybe the proper Harry Potter books, but. It's still a darn fine book.

The crystal ball lamp is really what I'm itching to make. Meanwhile, I've been busying myself with churning out wizard money, rings, and baby unicorn horns to dole out to Potter-loving friends. And you bet I'm going to try the Every Flavor Be--ah, I mean, All Flavors Gumdrops recipe posthaste. Can't wait to see the look on my boss's face when I slip him a tabasco one. Ahem.

Kids WILL need help from grownups for most of this stuff, but that's not a bad thing. And, if I may make a suggestion: if you help your kids whip up a batch of Dragon Blood, put it in little plastic bottles from the craft store--and glue the caps on. Messy stuff

5.0 out of 5 stars Only the Best Book the Entire Universe! (well, almost), March 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
I am thirteen years old and consider myself sort of above most little kids' books. However, this book was so incredibly neat, here I am writing this review! It contains everything you want to know about how to pretend to be a wizard. I haven't acually tried all the things yet, but just siting there, looking at the artwork is awesome. It has everything from food to dragonsblood to mythology to wizard parties to a powder that smokes when you rub it. One should not be restrained by the age sugjestions-I want every fantasy-lover I know to READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Magickal!, August 21, 2001
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
I couldn't believe this book when I saw it, loaded with activities to do with my child, and for years to come my family will enjoy this lighthearted and fun filled work. Contains how to make robes, staffs, rings, flying carpets. Recipes such as crunchy bat wings, all types of activities to enjoy and do together (the important thing). For "kids" of all ages, opens your heart and mind and lets the magic that resides within you out. I bought this for my 1 yr. olds first birthday but I can't even put it down. Truly a wonderful book, Especially if your raising your child in alternative spiritualities or just want to do the "funny little things" that make you MOM.

5.0 out of 5 stars You, Too, Can Be a Hogwarts Student, January 30, 2002
By
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
... Or at least pretend to be! (NOTE: This is not a Harry Potter book, although it's certainly riding his "robe-tails.")

Not only does this book have some really neat and practical projects (container herb garden), but also has some pretty icky, kids-love-it projects like a terrarium for carnivorus plants and a mold garden. You can make your own wizard's robe, invisible ink (that you can use with your newly-made quill pen), and sew your own journal. The recipes include gumdrops, rock candy, and homemade slime (!). There's bits of history and folklore in it, too, just in case you get tired of making all this great stuff and want to read a while.

The illustrations are wonderful, the writing is engaging, and it has a ribbon bookmark (okay, it may be a silly thing to mention, but I love ribbon bookmarks). This is a very entertaining book. Many of the projects would lend themselves nicely to a theme party, and there are a few suggestions for that, too. Your Harry fan will have a *blast* with the ideas in this book. I can't wait to some of them with my own little HP fan...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book EVER!, June 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
I personally would recommend this book to anybody, Harry Potter fan or not. This is a great book, and it tells how to make two different kinds of wands, robes, cloaks, crystal balls, potions, a wizard's hat, turban, and more! It also tells how to make a wizard party, etc.

I got this book for my birthday about two years ago, and I've read it through at least ten times since then. If I have nothing to do, I just sit down and read it. It's got lots of stories, so if you just feel like reading, it's the right book.

I hope this was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wizardry at Its Craftiest, April 25, 2001
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
Only 600 years - but the wait was worth it. The Illustrations are nothing short of magical. The secrets told include making a Sorcerer's hat, disappearing in your "Now You See Me, now you don't Cloak, the jeweled Solomon's Magic Ring with instructions for choosing justice and kindness to control its power, and making baby unicorn horns. I loved all the educational information disguised in charming mysterious images -Learn about the constellations with the caster( flashlight covers), horticulture (Mandrake heads from apples and terrarium building, and alchemist (Phatom Potions, Chameleon Water, and Ghouly Green Quicksand) and use your imagination (crystal balls, bejeweled mirrors, fairy tambourine) and legends that come to life. We'll be throwing neighborhood wizard parties by making Crystal Candy, floating Magic Candles, and glowing crytal balls.

A truly enchanting book. The illustrations will knock your Sorcerer Slipovers off!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well, this book will be popular at MY house., December 15, 2001
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
This book is wonderful, I first saw it at a science class that I go to and my teacher very kindly let me flip through it during break. I fell in love with it on the spot, partly because it was a book for wannabe wizards that was not covored in pictures of harry potter's scarred forhead, partly because of the wonderful crafts, stories, and idias inside. (Great theme idea for a treehouse!) It is a charming book, and I, as well as my class and teacher can recomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turn off the TV, Get OffLine and Savor this book, May 30, 2001
By
This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
Anything that encourages kids to put away the mouse, turn off the TV, get offline and open an old-fashioned adventure - a book - should be treasured. The Book of Wizard Craft does just that. In this visually brilliant book, an old wizard encourages kids to awaken their imaginations, get out the glue, glitter, string, and create! And in a slight-of-hand way he teaches them fascinating facts about alchemy, the runes, and some spooky-fun stuff, too! Lindy Burnett's illustrations are pure magic! The genius of this wonderful book, she has worked wizardry at her own cauldron - the painter's palette. Each beautiful page draws in the eye and the imagination as she spins straw into gold at every stroke of the brush! Ms. Burnett brings exceptional artistic delight to this fun, playful and educational journey through ancient teachings. It is a brilliantly crafted, colorful, alive work of art!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for young and old, January 2, 2002

This review is from: The Book of Wizard Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Spells, Potions, Fantastic Tales & 50 Enchanting Things to Make (Hardcover)
I gave this book to my daughter (aged 8) for Christmas. She loves Harry Potter and I was looking for something fun related to the same theme. The book is well laid out and the instructions are simple. It is full of activities and some are them are great fun. My Dad got hold of it and wants to do several of the activities with her but luckily I got in first. We've made sweets, quicksand and outfits. Its good clean fun.
