3.0 out of 5 stars two fantasy books in one volume [no spoilers]
"The Book of Years Volume #2", combining two stories "The Dragon Lord" and "The War Lord" (formerly "The Warlord's Domain") by Peter Morwood. Rather confusing developments manipulate both heroes and creatures in a poorly edited text filled with misspellings.

The menacing world has become more vicious (with disturbing images of cruelty) as "The Dragon Lord"...

This review is from: The Book of Years, Vol. 2 (Mass Market Paperback)
"The Book of Years Volume #2", combining two stories "The Dragon Lord" and "The War Lord" (formerly "The Warlord's Domain") by Peter Morwood. Rather confusing developments manipulate both heroes and creatures in a poorly edited text filled with misspellings.

The menacing world has become more vicious (with disturbing images of cruelty) as "The Dragon Lord" resumes the adventure of Aldric Talvalin approximately three months following "The Demon Lord" account in "The Book of Years Volume #1". Characters and events significantly shape Aldric's moral growth and emotional maturity while at times questionable behavior reminds how he is utterly alone clan wise and with few real friends. I found Gemmel Errekren's unusual background displeasing. The feature moments are the magnificent firedrake encounters, capturing the intellect and supremacy of the legendary creature. Overall a pleasant if slightly lengthy read.

"The War Lord" concludes the dark saga of Aldric Talvalin approximately two months after his earlier adventure. New antagonists are more horrible than found in the former stories. Even though Voord Ebanesj evokes vast evil and has an intriguing transformation, unpleasant events have changed my recommending the series to children. Character interaction is not as charming as the past stories and the sudden conclusion is exceedingly unsatisfactory.

Military and political figures play essential roles however the political drama asserts minimal activity. A detailed map of the significant terrains and comprehensive appendix would have been useful.

I highly recommend the beginning of the series to any fan of the fantasy genre, though not this volume.

Thank you.

This review is from: The Book of Years, Vol. 2 (Mass Market Paperback)
You learn more about the characters in this book. Overall it was a good book, not as good as the first omnibus, but still a worthwhile read.
