Another great book by Ms. Higgs!,
By
This review is from: Bookends (Paperback)
I first read "Mixed Signals" (highly recommend it too!) and eagerly delved into this one as well. While I didn't quite enjoy "Bookends" as much as "Mixed Signals", (maybe because I found the radio business in "Mixed Signals" more 'up my alley' than construction and history--???) it was still a great read and I stayed up all night finishing it. Liz Curtis Higgs is a wonderful writer and really does a great job at character development. By the end of her books you feel like you 'know' the characters. The worst part is when you get to the last page! You just want her books to keep going and going. It's so great to find quality Christian fiction. Thank you Liz! Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more from you!

What a terrific read!,

I just finished a wonderful book by Liz Curtis Higgs.I was drawn to this book because 1) I had read her previous novel MIXED SIGNALS and loved it (she has also written several nonfiction inspirationals) and 2) It's one of the rare books set in a Moravian community (this time ontemporary Lititz, PA) as I had a family of Moravian ancestors. This book was terrific. It dealed with a young woman, Emilie, who has a Ph.D. in anthropology and has returned to her hometown on hiatus from teaching in NC to write the history of her hometown Moravian church for its 250th anniversary celebration. But she has an ulterior motive as well -- one that will give her accolades from her collegues and help her recover from hurt pride. While there she meets land developer Jonas Fielding, who is best described as a real "hunk." A big conflict comes in when Emilie who cherishes everything from the past, locks horns with the modern-thinking Jonas. Of course the fact that they are both attracted to one another gets the sparks flying. Things don't always go smoothly as when Emilie discovers Jonas is building the 18th hole of a golf course right on the ruins of the first Moravian church in the community.Liz Curtis Higgs has quite a way with words and her witty, seemless style of writing is very appealing. I laughed out loud more than once. I can only hope she writes fast as I can hardly wait for her next book!

Ms. Higgs has done it again! The characters in Bookends are so real, their struggles, feelings and emotions are human and very relatable! I loved reading (and laughing) along with the characters throughout the book. If you like a little humor in your romance, you are sure to love this one!

Joyful Reading,

Liz Curtis Higgs has made Lititz, PA sing for this former native! What fun to read about a charming town I love, two delightful characters and a faith that won't stop, no matter what! I even think I recognize some real-life folks still dwelling in that wonderful place. Thanks, too, Liz, for the funny situations you always include in your writing. Salem College can be proud of their Doctor Em-ee-lee! Lots of fun!

A definite must for your book collection!,

A friend of mine lent me this book and I had absolutely no idea what to expect of it. But, reading the first few pages of Bookends (brilliant title for a book), there's no stopping of me. The plot is heartwarming, comical, romantic and contagious! The underlying message of the book that being a Christian is all about building a relationship with God is beautifully built in the main characters, Em-ee-lee and Jonas. Liz, you're a genius! I wish I could write like you. You've definitely got yet another one fan of your books. I can't wait to pop by the bookshop to get 'Mixed Signals'.

"Bookends" reveals a talent of the author, Liz Curtiz Higgs, that is nice to find in Christian Romance Novels. The characters are engaging and entertaning. Best of all, you do not have to wait till the end of the story for the main characters to have fun together! In this book the stroyline is creatively weaved with humor, seriousness, and romance, from begining to end. I highly recomend it to those who enjoy quality, intelligent, romance/comedy novels.

I work in a Christian bookstore and read many books a year (100-160) in all categories and don't waste my time on books that don't appeal to me. However, this book was just sheer entertainment. Higgs did a great job with this book. Read it, you'll like it.
