5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for visual learners and older readers, February 11, 2011
Not every child likes biographies - this one may please a child who would be reluctant to pick up a straight-text biography. (It is a graphic biography, like a comic book, so be sure your child's teacher sees it and gives it an ok before the report is due!)

This book packs a lot into a very few pages - the images do a lot to convey the information. Goes into the controversy with W.E.B. DuBois, and it is clear and understandable.

Most of all, what comes through loud and clear is the dignity of work and the importance of education.

People risked their lives, worked and struggled to get an education; nowadays kids shrug off what is given to them. This book may set them thinking.
