I am absolutely in awe of John's music writing style.

For Five For Fighting fans like me - this album does not disappoint - probably will make more of us.

It has been quite some time since Five For Fighting released a new CD and the wait was worth it.

I have been a huge Five For Fighting fan for about ten years. Not only does John Ondrasik make great music, but he donates so much of his time to charitable causes and supporting the men and women of the military. As far as this album goes, I am not sure if there is one song that stands out as the "best" or my favorite, but I feel that the album as a whole is his best work to date. Here are my initial thoughts about each song:

Stand Up - Great pick-me-up song. It's not too satisfying lyrically, but I can definitely see this song in a movie or a commercial.

What If - Classic introspective Five For Fighting song about putting yourself in other shoes and taking chances

Heaven Knows - Beautiful lyrics... "Smile darling don't be sad/Stars are going to shine tonight"

Down - This reminds me of "Hope" from Slice... Perfect placement in the album since the first three songs are much heavier

I Don't Want Your Love - Beautiful

Road to You - One of my favorite songs on the album. Love the background vocals (very Killers-esque)

She's My Girl - I like the background music and overall feel of the song, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on the lyric "She's better than ice cream"

Symphony Lane - Darkest sounding song on the album. Love the violin

You'll Never Change - I can see this being the breakout song of the album. "Poppy" enough to be on the radio, but strong lyrically

Your Man - Inspiring. The song really highlights John's incredible vocal range.

The Day I Died - I don't think we'll hear this song on the radio, but the lyrics are great and the song closes the album beautifully.

Overall, the album is incredible. This is easily Five For Fighting's best album.

Bookmarks is yet another page in the story of one of the best songwriters ever. If you have listened to Five For Fighting before and haven't felt that a particular song was written for you, I would be surprised. Bookmarks provides more of these moments. The sounds and lyrics combine to create paintings that provide a framework, but leave enough room to have them mean something unique to each listener.

The songs have catchy hooks and there is a lot more percussion than previous Five For Fighting offerings. The opener, "Stand Up," is pleasingly anthemic. And while all the songs are evocative, "What If" and "Symphony Lane" are especially so. "The Day I Died" really spoke to me, having recently lost my mom to cancer.

If you find yourself being disappointed in the dearth of good music out there, get Bookmarks and restore your faith.

I've loved John's work since his first album. Met him after a concert many many years ago and he's the nicest guy in the world. We both share the same political view point and have similar musical influences. Unfortunately, this album is just okay in my opinion. He has gone very POP-tastic these days. Nothing wrong with that if you want air play. But this is a far cry from the first few albums. Its less Rock and more Pop. The songs are still catchy and some of them have some good lyrics, but some are just so produced that I have to say I've heard better from John. Now die hard fans who love everything will say hey wait a minute, Superman is about as POP as you can get. That may be, but in my opinion, the album that song comes from is not very poppy. I just find this album to be somewhat overly produced. It almost seems like it was meant to just be POP music and thats it. I always felt John was more alternative at the start, but the production value on this and Slice have been so over the top that I wonder if he will ever get back to the bare bones rock and roll like Michael Jordan or Love Song. Nonetheless I will see go to his concert when he comes around. He's always great live and worth seeing.

This is definitely another solid effort by Five for Fighting! My favorites were What If, I Don't Want Your Love, Symphony Lane, Your Man, and The Day I DIed. Overall a great album and a return to form for John Ondrasik.

It's certainly not like the other five for fighting we have. This cd most certainly did not meet our expectations.

As a fan of Five for Fighting the release of "Bookmarks" was absolutely exciting. That excitement and anticipation was only surpassed by the actual arrival and the moment of truth when I could sit back and listen to the 11 tracks of music. I am absolutely in awe of John's music writing style. It just not music, it is truth, feelings, and emotions told in a way that cling to your deepest thoughts and form a connection with your deepest feelings. John's vocals are unique. His voice is a window to his music writing skills. That window is one we need to see and hear a lot more of.
