Bookmarks is a wonderful album that flows well from beginning to end. There are shades of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & Ryan Adams, to name a few, both in the lyrics & the music, but with Roddy’s own style glazed nicely over the top. His guitar, piano and harmonica-driven lyrical reflections impact on all who hear them and have subsequently earned him much respect from fans and critics alike. The album features guest performances from Kris Kristofferson, Eddi Reader and The Trashcan Sinatras.

Roddy Hart is a singer/songwriter from Scotland. His music is melodic and acoustic-based. "Bookmarks" is a nice disc with dreamy midtempo tracks laced with piano ballads. The opener "The Life & Times of Joseph Rowe" is a wistful reflective song that harks back to Jackson Browne's era, "In the sky a cool wind blows, to the sea a river flows, Where I'm headed no one knows, Oh let my spirit go." Put a harmonica in a song and everyone says Dylan. "She Is All I Need" has a harmonica, but Hart's vocals are expressive with a wistful quality. "Flames" is peppy shuffle that brings to mind early Van Morrison with its full band arrangement, "Chasing cars like shooting stars in search of some infinity, Turn on your love." I've had this disc on five times now. Many of the tracks sound good like "Suffocate" & "Time Is A Thief." However, none of the songs absolutely grab me, making me want to listen over & over. This impressive disc offers much promise. Enjoy!

One of the best albums released this year. The song writting is amazing. Some singer songwriters, you can just tell there better than everybody else, Roddy is one of those. If you dont dig this music, check your pulse.

I'm not a music critic, but I know what I like. Bookmarks is one of the best new albums I've heard in a long, long time. I love Roddy Hart's style, voice, lyrics, and arrangements. If you're a fan of folk, roots rock, or alt country, give this a listen. I think Roddy Hart's style will be pleasing to listeners from several genres. Sample this album for yourself, and I think you'll be pleased. I highly recommend this album.
