Excellent book for first time bible studiers.,
This review is from: Books of the Bible, The (Paperback)
Compact, easy to read and informative, this book helped take to fear out of picking up the Bible for the first time. By getting an understanding of the different books, it was much easier to read and understand the Bible itself.

Faithful in the Details = Accurate Big Picture,

For those who know Sailhamer from his more academic works, this is a handy book of fresh air. Sailhamer has published over 1500 pages on the Pentateuch in which he demonstrates in painful detail that he has considered and understands how the details make up the big picture. It is for this reason that he is the perfect candidate to write a one page summary on every book of the Bible.I love this little book. It is perfect for those times when you are called upon to teach from a book that you have been unable to spend much recent time in. His summaries give the perfect context. Imagine how helpful it is to read a one page summary on Isaiah! I have more appreciation for this book after reading other summaries (by even my favorite DC author) and left feeling like I had only a portion or angle of the book's big picture. Here's a good rule of thumb for any book with John Sailhamer's name on it: BUY IT! (I also recommend his NIV Compact Bible Commentary for slightly more detailed book overviews.)
