Cute, and fairly useful...,
This review is from: Books to Check Out: A Journal (Spiral-bound)
If your To Be Read list would frighten most people, then this little Journal would be of use to you. It is really well done, with sections for Books to Read, Favorite Books/Passages, and Books Borrowed/Lent. You can write lots and lots of books in here, the only problem is, you often have to use more than the allotted space for books. There isn't much room, but it is definitely a great idea, and a useful tool. I have listed lots of books in it, and it's really helped me realize how many books I have yet to read, in comparison with those I have read. A great gift for book lovers, because it will actually help you figure out what books are still sitting on your shelves, or in your TBR pile that is threatening to topple over and squash you, even if you can't see them!

Good Idea in Theory,

This review is from: Books to Check Out: A Journal (Spiral-bound)
This little journal is a really good idea for people who have an extensive list of "must read" books and not quite as much time as they'd like to get them all read. The pages are blank, save for the lines that are intended for the book lover to list all of the titles that he/she would like to read one day. The only complaint I have about this journal is that the space alotted for each entry is somewhat short, forcing the longer titled books (i.e. books with more than one word in the title) to be either abbreviated or assigned more than one line. The journal itself is a good idea, but it should have been made bigger.

"Books to Check Out" is the Book to Buy,

I always seem to find books I want to read before I find the money to buy them. This little book is great because I can write down the title and author to remember it later. I don't have any problem with the amount of space in it. I think the makers of the book intended users to use as many lines as they need to write down titles. In addition to being useful, this journal is also pretty cute. I keep it with me in my purse all the time.

Great idea, poor execution,
By paygenie "Pianist and sheet music collector" (California, USA) - See all my reviews

This is a great idea, but the execution is very poor. The journal has different sections for you to list what books you want to read, favorite passages and more. But unfortunately every page is identical with a T-chart-like format, which gives you little space to write. For instance, if you're to write a favorite passage, the space to write the title of the book is the same width as the space allowed for the passage. Are you supposed to abbreviate? Or only include passages that are four words long? The journal doesnt include plain, lined or blank pages, so it's really only to keep track of books and book passages. The cover is the only good thing good about this journal.

Books to Check Out Journal,
This review is from: Books to Check Out: A Journal (Spiral-bound)
Things that I like about this book:
- Pages are thick and great for writing on. - I love the size. Small enough to be out of the way, big enough to write in. Things I didn't like: - There are "Chapters". Books To Read, Favorite Books/Passages, and Books Borrowed/Lent. - Coupled with the fact that the book has a "T" style grid inside. Either you ignore the line in the middle of the page and write over it, or you don't have enough room to right out an entire passage. All in all, though, I do use and like this book.

Librarian Loves This!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Books to Check Out: A Journal (Spiral-bound)
I gave this book to all of my friends and school volunteers who love books. The book pocket in the back adds nostalgia for "The good old days" and is a perfect place to put a gift card for a bookstore.

I don't' leave home without it,

I am on my second one, it has proven very useful. I jot down books to search for at the library or used bookstore. I also keep my online library information in here, as well as books I've loaned or favorite passages. I cannot function without this, highly recommended.

A good idea but...,
By Peekablue (Missouri, U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Books to Check Out: A Journal (Spiral-bound)
I saw this on Amazon and liked the idea. I found this book at the local Borders store and looked through it. There were a few similar books that I also looked at but none of them fit my needs exactly. They all have too many categories, some of which I would never use, such as books lent and book club. Also, there is limited space to write in entries.
So, instead, I purchased a small blank journal. This book is the same size as the others and it's much more pleasing to look at. There is a ribbon book-mark and an elastic band to hold the book closed. A pocket on the inside of the back cover is the perfect place for keeping my Borders rewards card, bookstore gift cards, and coupons. The only problem is that I was so excited about starting my lists that I didn't properly plan out how I wanted my books organized. |
