4.0 out of 5 stars Ah! What a child friendly book this is., April 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Bob Books Kids! Level B, Set 1(re-released Bob Books Set 3- Word Families) (Paperback)
In an attempt to read, my 5 year old would come to me a hundred times a day with some book or the other and ask,'what does this say, mommy?' As it is, I was already looking around for a good reading material her age and thankfully came across Bob Books Kids. Believe me, if you are trying to teach your child to be an independent reader, then this is just the thing for you. Bob books comes in a small box with such fun to do things like activity books and finger puppets besides palm size reading books. With just a few, small one-line sentences in each story, my daughter could finish one book in no time and was jumping up and down. To finish one book is a big achievement for any child her age and the fact that she was motivated to read more, made me like Bob books even more.Your child can even color the pictures given in these books. I would mention however that your child should have some knowledge of phonics, before he/she attempts these books. You don't want to frustrate the child. I would therefore suggest workbooks by American Education publishing on Phonics and reading. To further hold their attention, try mispronouncing easy words given in the books like Barb, Mop etc. and let them correct you. I would instantly get my daughter's attention back. Finally if you can ignore some uncommon words used in these books, you would be fine. Happy Teaching reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vote For Bob!, September 5, 2000
This review is from: Bob Books Kids! Level B, Set 1(re-released Bob Books Set 3- Word Families) (Paperback)
The Bob books are the most appealing early reading books for kids currently on the market today. As a first grade teacher, and mother of a grown child, I have used these books for 15 years. They are perfect for young readers. The children love them. Their small size, gentle story lines, simple line drawings are all drawing cards for young readers. Children are small, and they love little things. They are not little adults; they need stories that are amusing, gentle, and age appropriate. Great literature is for later! At the early stages, the reading should be accessible to developing skills. That is why I always have the Bob books available for my kids. I want them to love reading. And Bob does just that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love those "Bob" books!, September 17, 2001
By

We have been educating at home since 1993... and one of the first "Jewels" we discovered were the Bob books. It was hard to find beginner readers in the library that focused on all short-vowel sounds or that contained all three-letter words. These books quickly build self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment because they are short and easy to read. We have also purchased Bob books as gifts and are now purchasing them for our 5 and 3 year old daughters. They love them as much as the older children did... and now they offer several "levels" to grow into.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning readers, November 6, 2004
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If your child knows all his or her sounds of the basic 26 letters of the alphabet, your child can most likely read all of the books in this packet.

These are small easy to read books. The picture add to the text but do not distract from the purpose of this book, reading. The stories are short and easy to read. They are entertaining and usually have a bit of something off beat in them.

My son was four when he began working on reading the bob books by himself. They gave him success in way that other books could not. He was able to sound out the simple words and read alone. Because there is only one line on the page, he did not get lost accidently jumping from line to line. He particularly liked that they were not boring like the others my mother had- one vowel books (Up Pup, jump).

Enjoy.
Worth Every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make "Bob" a part of your young child's early reading!, September 5, 2000
The Bob books are superior early reading books. They are gentle stories, using a tight, controlled vocabulary and delightfully simple line drawings for illustrations. I have used these books, for years, for independent reading for my first grade students and my own child as well. These wonderful, little books are appealing to young children, more so than any other books that I have seen. You and your young ones will love the Bob books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob Books Fun!, August 29, 2000
By
Constance Linder (Pflugerville, TX USA) - See all my reviews
These are the absolute best early reader books I have found anywhere! Short vowels, simple words and sounds to start off and then each book adds a little more so your child can have early success, then gradually move up to harder words and eventually long vowels. There's nothing else like them. Great for early phonics practice. Closest thing to the books we learned on. (Remember, "See Dot run. See Spot run. See Dot and Spot run.", etc?) These are the first books every child should read. Try one set, then buy them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute best to get kids reading!, December 26, 2002
By
Walter Reade (Appleton, WI United States) - See all my reviews
These are simply the finest first reading books on the market today! Each page has a sentence such as, Peg had a big cap, along with a simple illustration. At the end of each book is a list of unique words contained in the book (usually about 20-40) listed by the vowel sound. The set of 12 books also comes with a teacher/parent guide that give the story behind the Bob Books, hints for teaching your child to read, and questions you can ask the child about each book to help with comprehension and enjoyment.

This set of books really hooked my daughter on reading. We gave these to her when she started Kindergarten and she would read them on the way to school. The nice thing about having 12, is that when she mastered one of them, her reward was to get the next! These books provided her first good experience with reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Bob Books too -Reading specialist, February 15, 2005
I'm a reading specialist and author ("Teaching Kids To Read for Dummies"). Just in case you have any lingering doubts about trying out these great little books -my job is to start kids reading (even if they've failed before) and I use Bob Books all the time. The illustrations are a great plus for me because they're cartoonish and so appeal even to kids who are starting to read later than classmates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great first readers, April 9, 2002
By A Customer
My five year old son was becoming very frustrated with trying to read the supposed "first readers" at our library. I was equally frustrated, as some of them even included contractions which are very confusing for a beginner reader! The Bob Books are truly for the first time reader. My son was able to sound out the words and start to feel good about his ability to learn to read. I definitely recommend these books as the ultimate starting point for helping your child to learn to read!
