4.0 out of 5 stars A good source of math lessons for elementary teachers, November 26, 2004
This review is from: Books You Can Count On: Linking Mathematics and Literature (Paperback)
Being universally applied, mathematics appears in many forms in children's books. However, if you are going to use the books to teach mathematics, you need to know about them. Chapter four, the major section of this book, is a list of books for children that contain mathematical concepts. For each book, there is a synopsis of the story, a list of the mathematical topics in the story, how to prepare a lesson based on the book, the activities to have the class perform, indicators to look for throughout the lesson and how long the session should be.
Chapter five is a list of activities based on rhymes and poems, six covers themes such as bed-time and size; seven is a listing of children's books based on counting and chapter eight is an annotated booklist of other mathematical topics. If you are teaching mathematics to children in early elementary school, then this book contains a selection of lessons that you will find of value to you and fun for the children. The homeschooling parent will find it an invaluable source of lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journey to the Other Side, May 15, 2001

This is a great book. I teach 8th grade mathematics. Students are captured by the story line and enjoy working through the problems that Katie, Tony, Rodman and Zara have to solve to get back home from the other side of the universe.
