5.0 out of 5 stars Best Live Show Ever!
Unlike the most watered down bands, the Ugly Americans stand alone. Not only are these guys very talented musicians, they are also very talented artists. Bob Schneiders' vocals are what Rock'n'Roll is suppose to be: fun, exciting, in your face and sometimes down right offensive. I've seen these guys live atleast 20 times and it is never boring. No looking at your watch...

2.0 out of 5 stars Clean It Up
While the musical talent of this band is evident, from the first note, the lyric writing has something to strive for. While not every line has a 4 letter word in it, the Ugly Americans (aka Scabs) make up for it by degrading women, talking about rape (how it is okay) and the like. If you have a mixer that can eliminate the voice track, buy this album, otherwise it...

Bob Schneiders' vocals are what Rock'n'Roll is suppose to be: fun, exciting, in your face and sometimes down right offensive. I've seen these guys live atleast 20 times and it is never boring. No looking at your watch to see what time it is. They also have some CD's under the group name of "The Scabs." However, Amazon.com has CD's from some other band called "The Scabs." Go to uglyamericans.com, and there is a link to buy the real s**t! If you ever get a chance to see them live, don't miss the best show you'll ever see. It would be worth taking a trip to Austin where they play every Tuesday @ midnight at Antone's.

5.0 out of 5 stars poppin! Austin band lights a fire under your pants, August 17, 2000

I have seen this band out when I am visiting in Austin, along with all of their other bands, the Scabs, and Lonelyland where they play at the local Saxon Club every monday night. These guys are tight, and the vocal ability that Bob Schneider brings to all his work with his talented posse is amazing. You have to have an open mind and an ability to see all the fun facets of all their integration of styles. Look past the dirty words. Who cares? You hear more language stuck on the freeway in heavy traffic anyway. Check out Lonelyland as well.

Thank God someone picked up where the first Red Hot Chilli Peppers album left off. The Uglies, however, have taken this type of music several steps further with their inventive use of an all-too-American James Brown / Booty Collins / Austin Slacker / Hippie swank. I've seen these guys several times in concert, and their albums thankfully carry the same in-your-face punch as the live shows. I highly recommend this and the other two albums ... I also would highly recommend seeing these boys when ever possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Austin's greatest explodes on the scene with Boom Boom Baby, June 12, 1998
This review is from: Boom Boom Baby (Audio CD)
The uglies are in finest form with their newest Capricorn release. These guys are the absolute quintessential Austin rock/funk/blues/power lounge band and Boom Boom Baby captures Bob, Bruce and team at the top of their game. Perhaps Austin's best live band, The Ugly Americans sport a rich lineage ranging from Poi Dog Pondering to Joe Rockhead. That said, if you don't live in Austin and can't get to Antone's on Tuesday nights to catch the uglies or their alter ego The Scabs live, Boom Boom Baby is the next best thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love, love the UA!, December 2, 2011

I have been a Bob Schneider fan for years! Love the Ugly Americans, Joe Rockhead, the Scabs and every other BS invention that has graced a stage. You can beat Boom Boom Baby as it's not just a guy singing, a guitar and bass player and a drummer. The various instruments used along with different genres make this former band a continuous classic. I will never get tired of listening to this album and seeing what Bob comes up with next!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's no way to label these guys except for talented!, July 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Boom Boom Baby (Audio CD)
This CD is so snap crackle poppin'! The lyrics are grand though not for the faint at heart. I'm lucky enough to live in Austin where I can hear these guys live at least once if not twice a week and they give a killer show, this recording definetly lives up to their usual blow away performances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funky gold for your soul, June 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Boom Boom Baby (Audio CD)
I've liked the Ugly Americans for a while and didn't think they could put out an album this good. I liked 'Stereophonic...', but thought it was no more than poppy rock. This is hard funk. I LOVE it! (However, the middle 4 songs are mediocre.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Different but Still Good, June 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Boom Boom Baby (Audio CD)
First track is rich in texture -- great horns; really good beat (title track).

I really dig "Wrong Direction" and "Orlando". Both are more of the pop style that these guys can produce.

Rest of the CD is OK.
