5.0 out of 5 stars Gemelli Diversi's Best Album Yet, October 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boom (Audio CD)
Gemelli DiVersi is one Italy's reknowned pop band talents, and includes members Thema and Guido (Rappers - I think they are brothers?), Strano (Chorus/Vocals), and Thg (Dj). These guys radiate a lush and positive vibe, fusing together "Traditional Canzione" and Hip-Hop/R&B.

I instantly became a fan of Gemelli DiVersi back in 2001 when I was studying abroad in Europe. While visiting relatives in Venezia (Venice), I was watching Italy's version of MTV and the group's hit single, "Anima Gemella" ("Twin Soul"), was just beginning. It had a catchy beat that held all the way through. It was brilliant! And still one of my all-time Gemelli favourites! Although I didn't understand the language much at the time, it was something new, different, and simply intriguing. I bought their album "4x4" in response, and have since supported this awesome Hip-Hop group. Their music has since inspired me to learn and appreciate the italian language, so much that I don't even bother anymore with America's Rap and Hip-Hop culture.

This particular album is by far the band's best to date! There are no annoying women with contradicting voices that have, in past albums (Come Piace a Me, Fuego), detracted from what otherwise would have been quality Gemelli DiVersi tunage. And Strano doesn't veer off on too high of a pitched course when delivering the choruses and midverses. It seems that time consistantly improves their musical style, tone, and rhythm. In their album predecessors, sometimes the beats are too compressed and make the speakers reverberate more than they should, but this album plays just right.

My personal favourites on this album are:

5. Che Mondo Meraviglioso (What a Wonderful/Marvelous World) - This track is dedicated to the group's DJ and his newly born daughter,
Nicole. This track is definitely one to bump with windows down. It's an invigorating, uplifting song with a rhythm influenced by one
of Bob Marley's tunes.

7. Icaro (Icarus) - This track is more of an emotional R&B ballad. It has a beautiful choice of words that illustrate a struggling
relationship and inspires one to stand again after falling.

8. Stereo - I play this song over and over. Such a compelling song! As always, Thema and Guido always captivate with their deep voices.

9. Lei Non Chiamera (She Doesn't Call) - Slow R&B style, but definitely a chillaxing one for a casual drive or mood.

The honorable mentions, which are still great songs, include:

1. BBoy-Band
3. Cosa Vuoi? (What Do You Want?)
6. Boom
11. Ancora "Un Po"

If you consider adding Gemelli DiVersi to your music collection, I recommend this album, "Boom," first. Followed by "4x4", "Fuego", "Reality Show", and "Come Piace A Me."

Gemelli DiVersi's music is heavily influenced by American pop music, but still holds it own. These guys are fun and don't give you the negative impression that American artists are so reknowned for: degrading of women, gangbanging and hustling, and other inappropriate explicatives.

I'm waiting for your new album Gemelli Diversi!!! (3 new tracks are on the 2009 Best of Gemelli DiVersi album)

5 Stars because: Good sound quality, beats, lyrics, flow, appeal, genre diversity, projection, etc...and the fact that it's still in my cd changer months later =)
