5.0 out of 5 stars BOOM AT THE TOP
FREDDY CANNON-BOOM BOOM ROCK & ROLL/THE BEST OF: Massachusetts native FREDDY "BOOM BOOM" CANNON had two indelible trademarks, a penchant for inserting a shouted "WHOO!" and a crashing drum beat into all his late 50s/early 60s hits, hence his nickname. Retro label SHOUT has packaged all his energy-charged chartbusters, with not a syrupy ballad in the pack. The CHUCK...

1.0 out of 5 stars Boom boom or boo boo?
This is probably the third time that Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon has shared his original masters with a re-issue label. The last time was 2000 when Varese Sarabande issue two CDs, the first the Swan 45s, the second the later WB sides. Both of these CDs were remastered at Digiprep, the sine qua non of remastering studios (the Complete Stax Volt Singles on Atlantic) by Dan...

This is probably the third time that Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon has shared his original masters with a re-issue label. The last time was 2000 when Varese Sarabande issue two CDs, the first the Swan 45s, the second the later WB sides. Both of these CDs were remastered at Digiprep, the sine qua non of remastering studios (the Complete Stax Volt Singles on Atlantic) by Dan Hersch. The first was sonically limited but far, far superior to the current 2009 Shout release where the Swan sides - putting aside the inevitable surface noise of 78s - sound worse dynamically than many 78s from the 40s and 50s (and even the 20s!!!!). Really poor quality - unless you like your CDs precompressed for dubbing to mp3.I'd hoped for better. If you want Freddy Cannon - look for the Swan Years on Varese Sarabande 302 066 111 2 and the WB years on Varese Sarabande 302 066 341 2

Retro label SHOUT has packaged all his energy-charged chartbusters, with not a syrupy ballad in the pack. The CHUCK BARRIS-penned PALISADES PARK, tongue twister BUZZ BUZZ A-DIDDLE-IT, and hip teacher ditty ABIGAIL BEECHER are almost impossible not to shout along with, let alone shake your sacroiliac to. TRANSISTER SISTER and THE DEDICATION SONG are nostalgic, fiesty odes to AM radio, while his 1981 single LET'S PUT THE FUN BACK IN ROCK & ROLL, backed by THE BELMONTS (minus DION) is one of the most joyous comeback efforts ever waxed. Ringing guitars, kitschy subject matter, and above all FREDDY CANNON's raw, spirited vocals make this collection a must own for any baby boomer's personal jukebox.

RATING: FIVE WHOO!'S

Just great! These songs bring back great memories. Freddy is so enthusiastic; it makes you feel good to hear the songs. Transistor sister was out when my brother and I bought a transistor radio for our older sister. We waited for the song to come on before we gave it to her. You won't be disappointed with this CD.

FREDDY CANNON IS A VERSATILE SINGER; HE SINGS ROCK n' ROLL SONGS WITH A JOYFUL, HAPPY BEAT. HIS VOICE EXEMPLIFIES THE GREAT ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC THAT ALL MUSIC LOVERS ENJOYED BACK IN THE 60'S.
