It barely gets louder than the normal iPhone speakers, so I was on a quest to find something better.

I have had my Skully for a few months now. Originally I bought the lil fella because it was just the cutest thing I ever did see! I first saw/heard it during a group bike ride through the streets of our neighborhood. It was love at first sight. I had been searching for a small portable speaker to take to work with me and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg to get one with good sound. I had fun personalizing the skully to match my personality and when I received the speaker, I was pleasantly surprised to find extra eyeballs and stickers! Hooray! The speaker lived up to all my expectations and more. It gets me through my workday and goes for days without needing a charge. Money well spent. :)

My first impression was that this is a cute little speaker, but it's a little pricey. In any case, I decided to try it out just because I liked the clip feature as well as the included retractable audio cable. When the product arrived, I charged him up in about an hour and turned it on. WOW....WOW....and WOW. This little speaker put out WAY more bass than any other portable speaker I've ever had. I then took it on a 25 mile bike ride and the thing was STILL pumping out tunes. It took me 3 days of pretty regular use before I even needed to recharge it. I'm getting a bunch of these for gifts to everyone at the office.

***Updated review (may 2013)***

Pros:
1- A belt clip is built-in so you can clip it to your clothes as you snowboard or to your bike as you ride.
2- The housing seems to be weather resistant (though not submersible of course)
**update** I removed the speaker grilles and there is an opening under the small grille.
3- Great customer service- You can manage returns online.

Cons:
1- Not much bass - a deal breaker if that's what you are expecting.
2- Makes you think that it includes a mini-speaker but there is nothing but a hole under the small grille.

For bass-lovers, I recommend the iHome Cupholder Portable Speaker.

***UPDATE***
The included retractable audio cord stopped working after just 2 months of use.
Now I use a regular audio cord but that makes it difficult to clip to my bike and all but immpossible to clip it to my clothing.

I'm not exactly a person who gets mesmerized by anything shiny, but I'm sure it's happened to everyone one time or the other. You know, an instance where you scratch your head and ask yourself, "How'd they make this and what alien materials did they use to make this?"
1. When you first saw a Stealth bomber- how can something so angular fly?
2. When you first put your hands on an ipod- where's the buttons?
3. When you first turn on your Skully boombox. It's actually surprising when people have to ask me where the music is coming from when I'm riding my bike.

It's so light and small, I'm actually thinking about using a Y-Splitter cable to make the music sound even better on my rides.

To the person that said they could barely hear any vocals and very low volume, that is user error not product, make sure the 3.5 cable is fully seated to the plug in the back of the boombot, now go ahead and order another one, youre welcome;)

I originally purchased the BB2 when I came across a limited version of it on my favorite hip hop artists website. When I purchased it and got it home I was blown away by the sound that came out of it! I then wanted another for home use and to have the ability to connect both speakers so I bought the BB1. Man I was not let down. I find myself using this more often than the BB2. You can not go wrong at all for the price and quality. Highly recommended!!!!!!

I've gone through maybe 5 or 6 smaller or cheaper speakers like this but they all ate batteries faster than I could buy them, and they all were all not loud enough. This is the best portable speaker I have ever seen. And I've had other people tell me that to. It is louder than any other it's size. Also love that I can just plug it in to charge so no more batteries. And it does last a long time on a full charge. Now it is a little pricier than others but well worth every dollar cuz it's built to last.

Update written May 30th, 2014:
I wrote the review below in May, 2012 when I was buying my 2nd Boombotix. I have had an excellent experience using both speakers while bicycling. The two together are louder than road noise on the busiest roads I ride. Two years later, one of my little BB1 speakers has stopped charging. The plug mechanism is coming apart, so the USB plug won't fit snugly.

No charging = battery dying = broken speaker. Useful life was two years. I'm really not complaining -- It lasted two years, and the price is now around $30. The quality is very good for the price.

Previous review written May 1st, 2012:
When I am biking through suburban and semi-urban areas, I want to listen to music louder than the cars driving past me.

I also want it loud enough that my kids (Tandem bike) can also hear the music. This has to be LOUD! I tried a little metal gizmo from Thinkgeek. It didn't do any better than my cell phone's own speaker.

Then I tried the Boombotix. Loud music? Yes. Distortion? No.
This absolutely works as advertised. Worth the price.

Hearing our music is sometimes still challenging on busy streets, so I am now buying a 2nd BB1 to connect to the same audio source in parellel. But my needs are unique -- One of these is probably sufficient for most people.

A note about purchasing:
Stick with Amazon. The prices on boombotix.com are higher than Amazon, charge sales tax if you're in CA, and add $9 shipping. Not their fault, just a fact.
