Interesting, but not a must-have,

This review is from: Boombox: The Remix Album (Audio CD)
I have been a Kylie fan since the Fever album came out, and have collected all of her albums and singles since then, mostly imports. So while about half these mixes are available on commercial CD singles already, a lot of them were brand new to me. But even so, the ones I already did have are here in edited form, which is cool, so you're not getting complete duplicates. (No track breaks 5 minutes.)
I was just surprised at how many dubs were included on this collection! Some are listed straight up as such, and others are not. Love at First Sight, Wow, Red Blooded Woman, and Giving You Up are the worst offenders, utilizing just one or two lines (if not words) repeatedly, and even 2 Hearts and I Believe in You cut out the choruses. Don't get me wrong, this is a great CD to get down and boogie to and it's always fun to hear something in a different way, but I also feel like you have to be somewhat familiar with the original versions of these songs to appreciate the remixes. Hence I might not recommend this to only a casual fan. For there being certainly no lack of Kylie mixes to choose from, it would have been nice if the producers or whoever had chosen ones with wider appeal. The One and In My Arms are personal highlights, but notably missing is any version of Chocolate. So it is kind of a lazy effort, or maybe a rushed release, but not a complete disaster. Three stars.

Boombox does exactly what it sets out to do: It gathers together the best remixes of Kylie's classics between 2000 and 2008. There's certainly no shortage of Kylie remixes, with one or more on her various cd singles, which can vary in European, Japanese, and Australian incarnations. 2000-2008 has been Kylie's best period, with the landmark albums Light Years, Fever, Body Language, and X, as well as the Ultimate Kylie greatest hits collection that introduced two more of her best originals (I Believe in You and Giving You Up). The remixes selected for this set were the right choices, as these are indeed the most worthy of their own featured release. It doesn't make for a classic cd on the level of those mentioned above, but it makes for an enjoyable listen.
If there's any disappointment, it's only this: What we really need is a complete B-Sides collection, featuring original song B-sides. Kylie could easily fill a double-disc collection of those songs, which are often as good as the songs on her official albums. As good as these remixes are here, none of them surpass the originals. So it's a welcome addition to Kylie's catalog, but ultimately a place-holder between studio releases.

"...are you're speakers loud enough to handle it?..."
The title track "Boombox" is enough to make you want to own the album. As "dated" as some critics call this album. I for one find it amazing for an artist to actually put together a collection of her Dance Remixs in a greatest hit compilation. Boombox contains some of the biggest dance hits of the past 8 years. Kylie, being the proclaimed "Princess of Pop" in the UK, Australia and throughout Europe, it would only be approprite to pay hommage to the dance music scene that has kept her career going for over three decades. Kylie is a class act so only the creme de la creme of European DJs were chosen to work with her through the years. Resulting in a feverish wave of Global Dance/Electronia number ones. The DJs associated with the collection include Scotish Spinning Genius Mylo who has collaberated with every musical success in Europe and Asia. the LA Riots, The Chemical Brothers and many other Dance Music giants such as the electro-clash masters Fisherspooner. Although the dance music scene changes its sounds on an almost year by year basis, these remixes, even the tracks from the earlier part of the decade are pure dance classics. This is a European Music Collectors dream and is a must buy for any Kylie fan. If you would like to test drive any specific tracks before buying you must listen to: Can't Get Blue Monday Out of My Head (mash up new order vs Kylie) Slow - Chemical Brothers I Believe in You - Mylo Come Into my world - Fischerspooner Boombox - LA Riots The One - Bitroka Mix In Your Eyes - Knuckleheadz Mx.

This is one of the best Kylie remix cds ever. All the songs have been given the midas touch by renowned world-class djs and every song comes out sounding so fresh!
I really can imagine dancing in a sweaty, sexy clubs to all these beats. My most favourites are "Slow" done by the chemical brothers, "I Believe In You" mylo vocal mix style, "Your Disco Needs You" remix. All are glittering gems waiting to be discovered..(and the beat goes on..)

Bought this CD and was quite pleased with it. Some really nice remixes of some of Kylie's best tracks. It's a great mix of Pop, Electronica and House. Great CD for a party where people are lounging around.

Remixing done right,

I'm not a big fan of remixes in general. Mostly because most of them are so mediocre ... with generic dance beats, cheesy sound affects, and phrases from the song repeated over and over until it becomes ingratiating. However, when a remix is done right, what can happen is that a good song can be taken in a completely new and exciting direction. That's what some of the top notch talent present on "Boombox" does.
A few of the remixes on "Boombox" are amazing. The Chemical Brother's mix of "Slow" is one of the best remixes I've ever heard. It takes the slinky original song and turns it into an all-out, trippy sonic orgasm. Another standout is Fischerspooner's epic, euphoric mix of "Come Into My World." Other highlights are the previously unreleased "Boombox", and the Death Metal Disco Scene Mix of "Wow".

This remix album which spans Kylie's 3rd decade in the music and contains some of her best work was actually good. I especially like Your Disco Needs You, Giving You Up, Can't Get YOu Out Head My Head, and Boombox, and this album makes a wonderful additional to any remix collection.

Not one to dwell on what many others have already have mentioned, this is one of those dance albums one must own if anyone appreciates not just Kylie, but loves female dance artists in general.
Kylie is more than just a singer of dance music, but is an artist. This showcase is basically a slew of remixes, but what a collection! As a former dj, I was 'remix' crazy. What can 'I' do to make such an ordinary song sound, well, different. These tracks are a welcome addition.

Don't listen to the critics!,

I really don't understand why critics are too negative over Kylie's albums, especially since her latest studio album "X". Okay, we all know that This is not Mozart, or something - but who cares? Kylie has always been one of the greatest female popstars, who has been shining with her outstanding live performance and hit singles for years. And this is a collection of the best remixes of her Parlophone years. Therefore, I criticize the critics who claims that Kylie's albums do not sound well since her latest album "X". This is not a studio album - it just gathers what we have been hearing in the clubs since 2000.
As a Kylie fan who mostly dislikes the remixes of her songs (although I love remixes in general), I can say that the best remixes are chosen and their radio edits were included in "Boombox" - which makes it more listenable as you don't get bored with full-length remixed tracks, and it makes the album sounds more like a "studio" album than a remix compilation. The classic mash-up "Can't Get Blue Monday", Mylo's well put "I Believe In You" and amazing Whitey remix of "Red Blooded Woman" are the most outstanding tracks on the album. The remixes of "Giving You Up" and "Slow" are tasty as well besides the "Light Years" stuff including "Spinning Around" and "On A Night Like This" which made me recall the "good old days". There are probably two tracks where you feel sick in the album - the remix of "In Your Eyes" is the worst I have ever listened- and I really don't understand why this is chosen while there was such a great remix of Roger Sanchez out there. "The One"'s remix is almost sounding like its original - which is not a bad thing for your ears, but it's an unoriginal remix. The only new track "Boombox" is also fun to listen to - and I am sure the fans who saw Kylie live at her XTOUR2008, will enjoy more from this track. I can suggest this album to any Kylie fan, and anyone who is eager to buy a high-class pop album to dance. This is what Kylie does best, and she does not disappoint even in a remix compilation.

I'm a self professed Minogue-er, and many of these tracks I've come into contact with either by her singles or the internet. The few tracks I didn't have are quite good, except as sad as it makes me #6 In Your Eyes( knucklehead remix), the tempo is way too fast in comparison to every other song on this album. Don't let that dissuade you from this record, it is fun for Kylie fans as well as people who enjoy dance/electro music.
