More About the Author

Ken began his career scrubbing dishes in a Pizza Hut and eventually became the youngest manager in that chain's history. What followed was a twenty-year career in the hospitality industry. He served as regional vice president, director of training, and COO of companies such as Taco Bell, Long John Silver's, and Advantage. This phase of his career featured dramatic customer-service turnarounds, record-low employee turnover, and the development of dozens of leaders in the industry. He is especially proud of the number of women he helped advance into executive positions.

At 37, Ken retired from the restaurant industry and founded an HR
consulting firm. Initially focusing on recruiting, Ken now uses his
expertise to help companies build teamwork and retain employees as well.
Companies of all sizes - from small family-owned enterprises to Fortune 500 corporations have benefited from his workshops, culture surveys, recruiting services, and consulting.

Ken's passion for developing people has led to his founding of Solomon's Harvest, a program that matches, trains, and supports mentoring teams. He is also a member of the advisory panel for Right From The Heart ministries. In addition, Ken was recently elected to the Civil Service Board for Cobb County Georgia.

Ken and his family live in the Atlanta area. The family is active at Marietta's Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, where Ken leads the popular Mayberry Family Bible Study during the summer.

Ken is the author of Recruiting Excellence (2000), Retaining Employees
(2002), and Never Order Barbecue in Maine, Proven Career Strategies from
People Who Have Been There, Done That. (2006).

5.0 out of 5 stars A critically important addition to community library Jobs/Careers reference collections, February 15, 2010
This review is from: The Boomers' Career Survival Guide: Achieving Success and Contentment from Middle Age through Retirement (Hardcover)
The 79 million Americans categorized as the Baby Boom Generation are now arriving on the doorstep of retirement only to be faced with a depleted economy and the massive downsizing of businesses. That's why "The Boomers' Career Survival Guide: Achieving Success and Contentment from Middle Age through Retirement" by Ken Tanner (an Atlanta, Georgia-based resources consultant specializing in employee retention and career development) will prove so invaluable. Drawing upon his many years of experience and expertise, Tanner organizes his observations, commentaries and advice into three principle sections and in the process covers everything from maintaining employment, to reentering the job market after an absence (enforced or otherwise), strategies for what to do when faced with being employed in a troubled company, to preparing for retirement, and so much more. Practical and thoroughly 'user friendly', "The Boomers' Career Survival Guide" is very highly recommended reading and a critically important addition to community library Jobs/Careers reference collections.
