I really enjoyed this book. It's great to know I'm not the only one out there facing these issues. The material was presented in a very readable style. I read the whole book in one sitting even though it is over 200 pages. I'm sure a lot of the things discussed by other boomers will come to mind when I need them most.

I recommend this book for anyone facing dating,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dating Disaster
This book is one of those fluff formulaic series like Dummies, but the without the expertise. Helgoe, who has a long term marriage, doesn't have a clue what singles are going through out there in the trenches. Very little solid advice, a lot of trite over used material you can get from the back issues of any woman's magazine. There is a problem with factual accuracy in this...

With the divorce rate hovering around 50% for the last couple of decades, this book about reassimilating into the world of dating couldn't come at a more crucial time. Let's face it: those of us who haven't been in the game are socially inept (or worse). We need just what this book supplies, a basic how-to to remove the trauma from our first efforts toward new love.

Loved this book!!! Great practical advice delivered with humor. The "From the Mouths of Baby Boomers" sidebars tell first person stories of people who are dating now. The author provides powerful insights into how to move past old relationships, a big issue for us Boomers, and start dating again with a fresh perspective. Smart and current. Very much worth the money.

This is not dating trivia..it's a healthy dose of optimism about something that scares us all, with some equally healthy advice about how to avoid some of the many pitfalls. Laurie's years of relationship counseling experience teaches us not just how to get asked out, but how to get asked out by the people WE WANT to go out with, and how to form mutually respectful HAPPY relationships. Her wisdom is interspersed with delightful "real people" anecdotes and quotes from some of the most clever minds of all time..makes the reading go quickly. A must for the novice dater, as well as the "old pros" like me!!

Just what this lost dater has been looking for. I was thrilled to stumble across a book that geared dating advice specifically toward this middle-aged guy newly on the dating scene. This book addressed all of my fears and anticipated so many others. The wisdom found in these pages is sure to put any dating (again) boomer on track and well-equipped for an often frightening experience. Loved the author's humor and boomer bits. It took me back but also propelled me forward! Thanks Alpha Books and Dr. Helgoe for this clever guide. Definitely recommending to dating friends.

The author's years of relationship counseling experience makes the book tremendously valuable. Dating this time around is very different and most of us feel as if failure to connect is our fault. This book shows us we are not alone, its not "our fault", and inspires one to approach mating with enthusiasm and humor, while treating ourselves and others with respect. Great read, great tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent advice for a boomer that is dating... again, February 16, 2004

I ordered Dr. Helgoe's book from Amazon in December and could hardly wait for it to be released. When I finally got my copy in the mail, I read most of it in one sitting and am already working on my second time through it.

As a boomer (47 years old) who suddenly found himself single again, I was so out of touch (and terrified) about dating. I hadn't been out on a "first date" in over twenty years.

After reading the chapters on "Letting Go" and "Dating Fears", I knew I was in good hands. She really nailed what I was experiencing. Having stumbled through a few dates so far, I know I am going to really benefit from the advice in the meeting people and dating chapters. I enjoy the way she brings in the voices of experience (can anyone say "horror stories"). I'll be sure to reread the relevant chapters right before my next date.

I recommend this book to anyone who is dating again... but I'll also recommend it to happily married couples that just might need to think about dating each other again. Keep the romance alive!

This is a delightful book filled with useful information that is smartly written. It covers a wide range of issues facing us Baby Boomers who are dating again. It's easy to go directly to specific subjects that interest you, but I enjoyed reading it from cover to cover. The little sidebars, "From the Mouths of Baby Boomers," are especially nice, because they provide the views of many Boomers in different situations and add to the insights of the author. (There's even an appropriate one from the offspring of a Baby Boomer on page 39.) Dating might be tough at any age, but this book is easy to read and lots of help.
