A great way to look at getting in shape for good,
By Lo Silverman (Kissimmee, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boomer's Guide to Getting the Weight Off...for Good (Paperback)
I have struggled with my weight since having my children in my 30's. I've tried many different plans. If there was a new piece of exercise equipment, I used it. I would lose some weight, only to hit a plateau and stay there. Then I heard about this book and bought it. It was probably the best investment I've made in myself in a long time. Roberta Wennik really put her finger on the problem: one plan is not always right for everyone. So she offers at least four ways for successfully losing weight that never make you feel like you've gone on a diet. Not only that, when you've finished reading this book, you'll have all the tools to live a healthier life. Look at buying this book as an investment in yourself.

Thanks for the Memories,
By Jeffrey L. Zonis (Scottsdale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews

I felt like I was taking a walk down memory lane as the author shared tales of how it was to grow up as a boomer ... from the diet products to the gizmos and gadgets that were used to lose weight. As I was growing up, I never heard anyone talking about how important it is to take into consideration who the dieter is - what his or her needs are -not just nutritionally, but mentally and emotionally, as well. Even though there is a great deal of nutrition information in these pages (all very well worth the reading), it's the appreciation that one diet approach doesn't work for all. With four different plans geared to the various different personality types, there's no question you'll find a way to be successful. I highly recommend this book and hope others have the success that I've been having. I no longer look at food as the enemy.

Five stars aren't enough,
By Maria H. (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews

Who wants to diet the rest of their lives? I certainly don't and now with this book, I don't have to. I gotten more out of this one book than all the diet books I have ever read. Believe me, this is the last book I'll need to buy and I am sure you'll find that to be true, as well. You are given numerous choices of ways to loose weight, one that should fit your personality to a tee. Unless you are planning on changing your personality any time soon, once you decide what plan works for you, you'll find it will become a part of your every day lifestyle. You will learn to eat and exercise in a way that you can do forever. Not only do you discover alot about yourself in this book, but you'll find out about all aspects of your life to make it healthier. An investment in this book is pennies compared to the thousands of dollars in medical bills you may encounter if you don't get the weight off.

If someone says he or she can't find a plan in this book that allows them to be successful in losing weight, then I don't think they really want to lose weight. By finding out about my personality type, I was able to choose the plan that works best for my type. It makes it so easy because you don't have to use willpower to succeed. You just honor who you are and work with the strengths you have. Yet, there is so much more in this book. I learned a great deal about the essentials of good nutrition, what to look for in the grocery store, cooking tips, exercise ideas, and how to deal with stress. I realize that my lack of knowledge in some of these areas was part of the problem. No more. The best part of this book is that it's something I can stick with and not call a diet. It's just the new me!

From the perspective of a Generation X-er,

Even though I was born after 1964, the year when the last of the boomers was born, I was curious to see what this book was about. It was neat finding out what life was like when my parents were growing up as boomers. Makes me realize how much I take for granted, such as the microwave oven and cell phone. I discovered some great ways to lose weight. What the author offers is as good for boomers as it is for all ages. I learned things about nutrition that I never knew and will definitely use to get off these stubborn pounds to avoid the middle-aged spread that my parent's generation suffers from.

A treasure chest of good stuff,

This book is chocked full of so much great stuff. It's not just the nutritional information that the author provides that's so helpful, but the fact that she takes into consideration the emotional aspects of losing weight. The author takes a unique view of weight-loss ... through your personality type. She helps you determine your type and then shares what would be the perfect diet for that type. How can you go wrong? And best of all, it doesn't feel like a diet. That's because the author doesn't believe in dieting. Now that's someone after my own heart!

I've learned so much,
By Sarah (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boomer's Guide to Getting the Weight Off...for Good (Paperback)
My mom just recently got this book. Even though I don't have any weight to lose, I am very interested in learning more about nutrition and how to make sure I don't gain weight. There is so much in this book and it is so well-written (I really enjoyed the humorous asides by the author), that I had a hard time putting it down. I found out so much about myself, about cooking, grocery shopping, dining out, exercise and even how to handle stress. Even though my mom got the book because it addresses some of the weight-loss issues that baby boomers have to deal with, it's a great book for anyone, no matter how old they are.

The last diet book I'll ever have to buy!,
By Roberta (Lynnwood, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boomer's Guide to Getting the Weight Off...for Good (Paperback)
I've tried a lot of diets in my time, but none has ever done for me what this book has. Even though I've only had the book for a little over a month, I'm a changed person. Roberta Wennik helped me understand myself from a personality perspective and then showed me how to use my type to lose weight. Well, I'm losing weight and I don't even feel like I'm on a diet. That's because the author doesn't want you to be on a diet and she has shown me how to do it right. There is so much great information in this book that I'm looking forward to a healthier future. Diabetes runs in my family. Now I'm going to "get the weight off...for good" and not go down the path so many of my relatives have gone. This book is definitely a keeper. And I'm certainly going to tell my friends about it.

Finally, a realistic approach that applies to me!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Boomer's Guide to Getting the Weight Off...for Good (Paperback)
Do you know what it feels like to try diet after diet, have some success and then go backwards? This book finally made me realize that it isn't so much what I eat but how I go about losing weight. The author really considered me and my needs. I found a way that makes sense for my lifestyle. I think this is the last weight-loss book I'll ever have to buy. Given the weight I've lost since I read the book, why would I ever want to try something else?! I like that the author encourages me to decide what's right for me and doesn't tell me how I have to do it. I can do it "My Way."
