About the Author

Dr. Don Weinhouse’s education and career have coincided with his pursuit of joy and personal and spiritual development. With an MA in special education and a PhD in educational counseling and guidance, he began as a kindergarten teacher before moving into early childhood special education and school administration and then into college teaching. After retiring as professor emeritus of special education at Colorado State University–Pueblo, he returned to working part-time with young children with special needs and their families in San Diego, California. His previous two books, Little Children Big Needs: Parents Discuss Raising Young Children With Special Needs and Encouraging Potential in Young Children, focus on helping people and bringing out the best within them. He has, for almost half of a century, been aware of the importance of the twenty topics of his third book and has diligently pursued self-improvement in each.

I just got the book today and couldn’t put it down. It got me thinking about my life and what I can do right away to make it even better. I especially loved the chapters about “celebrating” all the little things that happen everyday (I need to do that more) and techniques to use my “breathing” to create a calmer state of mind/more peace. I’m going to reread these chapters first thing tomorrow.

I really liked the whole book, but what I liked best about Boomers’ Guidebook was the question to reflect on at the end of each chapter. Those questions pushed me to really look at myself and also gave me the impetus to experiment with some approaches I’ve never tried before. Really good stuff!

I read a lot of self-help books and this is one of the best I've read. I really appreciate the way the author respects us, the readers, and gives great ideas to start from where we are. The chapters on feeling and loving really made me think about my life and relationships and helped me come up with some new plans.

If you're looking for ways to make your life happier, get this book! It's a fun and interesting read and really causes you to re-examine your priorities.
