Editorial Reviews

The Boomtown Rats were founded in Ireland in 1975. They moved to London in 1976 and came to the forefront of New Wave music. Their debut single, "Looking After No.1," reached No.11 on the UK singles chart and began a sequence of 10 Top 40 UK hits, including their two No.1's "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays."

This show was filmed at London's Hammersmith Odeon in the summer of 1978. It includes the hit singles "Looking After No.1," "She's So Modern," "Like Clockwork" and "Rat Trap," which later that year would become the first New Wave No.1 hit, along with other Rats favorites such as "(I Never Loved) Eva Braun" and "Joey's On The Streets Again." Also included is the audience participation number "Do The Rat," which was a popular feature of early Rats gigs.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS DVD!!! You won't regret it..... March 11, 2005
Format:DVD
I bought this DVD on a whim, not really sure what to expect as I had never seen the rats in concert. I was totally blown away by it. Bob & company were a really great live band. Extremely high energy combined with tighter playing and greater chops than one would typically expect from bands of that particular genre. Bob shows that he is also an amazing frontman. He does a great job engaging the audience.

Considering that this footage is 27 years old, the picture quality is quite good. Not as good as you might get with a concert filmed in the 21st century, but certainly more than watchable. There is the occasional piece of conceptual footage dubbed over the live action, but not enough to be really annoying. The audio quality is quite good. Good enough that you might just want to listen to the audio track without watching the DVD.

The inclusion of two promo videos from one of Bob's solo albums seems to be a bit of an odd choice for a bonus, but cool to see anyway. Might have been nice if they had tacked on a couple of the videos that didn't make it to the "Someone's Looking at You" DVD like "Up All Night", "Joey's On the Street Again" or "Me & Howard Highes." But these are all minor gripes, this is certainly a DVD worth owning if you're a Rats fan or a fan of the late 70s UK music scene. A great bit of history nicely captured on this DVD.

GO BUY IT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, Yes, Yes! March 24, 2005
Format:DVD
A must have for Rats fans. And anybody who just likes good, solid, "brilliant" rock and roll should take a look also. Some of the camera work is cheesy and dated, but this is the Rats in their prime. Geldof proves he belongs in the same showmanship pantheon as Ray Davies and Mick Jagger. The sound quality is phenomenal. Crank up the volume.
