From the Manufacturer

Sing it with us: "La Di Da Di. We Likes to Potty." Cartoon versions of grown-up toilets don't make kids want to use the potty. They make parents want to throw out tacky baby products. We went for modern, subtle, and smart. Boon's Potty Bench has two enclosed side storage spaces perfect for books, training supplies and wipes. The sturdy drawer slides out for fast, leak-free, easy clean-up. Close the lid and the whole thing turns into a large step stool. It even comes with a built-in toilet paper holder and removable, soft deflector that flexes where it counts. (Guys, you know what we mean.)

I did a ton of research on which potty chair would be perfect for daughter. I wanted something that would be comfortable for her to sit on and use. A lot of the cons I read for reviews on OTHER pottys out there were that they were too "flashy", hard to straddle or sit on, too tight on thighs, hard to clean, leaked pee, or were too easy to take apart for children - not the Boon Potty Bench!

I will start by saying the only con I ran into was that when we received the toilet, a piece of the bottom were it connects one of the storage compartments was broken - it wouldnt and doesn't affect the use of the potty and I could easily fix it with some tough glue - no biggie.

NOW, on to the good part! We got this toilet when my daughter was 14 months old (she is now 16 months) and she still LOVES this potty. She can sit on it by herself and she peed in it right away! The clean-up is sooo easy, unbelievably easy! It is a very sturdy potty bench. We leave it out at all times for her to access and she will climb all over the thing. I've had guests come over and not even realize there is a toddler potty in our livingroom - with that being said, as soon as you open it, it resembles the big potty, which is nice and I can see moving to the big potty as an easy transition. One more thing! I really wanted a potty that my childs thighs wouldn't get stuck in or have a plastic seperation piece in between her legs - this way she can use the potty longer if need be.

My 2 years old is doing well with this potty, but it does leave marks on his tush, as if the opening it too narrow for him. Otherwise this learning potty is just right. It doubles as a step for washing hands after, and it's sturdy enough to hold my husband. Did I mention easy to clean?

The Boon Potty Bench is sturdily built, but has major flaws.

It appears to have been designed for girls, with a flat seating surface. To compensate they added a pop-up flexible spoon-shaped extension for boys that slides into a slot on the drawer -- clearly an afterthought. A failed afterthought.

First, the flexible extension is tempting to play with and easily pushed aside. With frequently disastrous result.

Pressing down on the extension pops the drawer open, and leaves the extension caught under the seating surface. There is no catch on the drawer to prevent this from happening.

Further, lowering the lid often pops the drawer out in the same way. Again with nothing to prevent a baby from pulling it out the rest of the way.

Over time the flexible extension takes a "set", making it less likely to work for redirecting pee, more likely to be used to push the drawer open, and actually more likely to prop 'things' up so that pee goes further.

My experience is that about 2/3 of the time there is a pee disaster requiring significant clean-up. With enough pee on the bench surface, it ends up in the side storage compartments.

The large size might also be an issue in some rooms. We have otherwise-wasted space aside our sink, but this won't fit in most small bathrooms.

With a higher priced product like this one, you really buy into wanting it to work. But sadly it's far less functional than lower priced products.

My son seems to do very well with this potty. The opening is big enough that he doesn't pee on the floor, and it's comfortable for him to sit on. My major complaint with this potty is that there really should be a lock on the pull-out tray. My son is at an age where he wants to "help" by pulling out the tray and either dumping it on the floor, or attempts to pour it into the toilet, which usually results in pee everywhere. It's extremely frustrating. I wish there was just a simple button that you had to push while pulling it out, which would make it hard for a toddler to open. Otherwise, it's a good product.

We were looking for a potty for our then-2 year-old, which would fit in with the decor of our master bathroom. The Boon Potty Bench was perfect for this purpose. It's a very attractive potty that doesn't look too "childish," so it's a good choice for a grown-ups' bathroom. Because of its sleek profile (especially with the lid closed), the Boon Bench is also a good potty to put in non-bathroom rooms of your house (e.g., the living room or family room), since it doesn't scream "potty." This makes it a handy choice for early potty training, when many parents opt to have a potty in practically every room of the house, so there's always a potty within easy reach if their child feels the urgent need to "go."

The reason I gave the Boon Bench 4 rather than 5 stars is that it has a few shortcomings. Firstly, the sitting surface of the potty is completely flat, with no padding whatsoever. Although this does make it easy to clean up any waste that gets on the seat, it also makes the seat uncomfortable for little-ones to sit in for very long. This will likely not be a problem if your child is already potty-trained and spends only a short time on the potty, but could be an issue at the early potty training stage when little-ones often need to sit on the potty for longer stretches before doing their business. (Especially #2). In addition, if your child tends to "plop" (sit) down hard on their potty seat, the rim of the non-padded plastic hole in the center of the seat can dig into tender tushies.

The second downside of this potty is related to the splash-guard. It's a plus that the splash-guard is soft, so kids don't hurt their delicate anatomies when sitting down on the potty. But that's where the benefits end.
