5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best cd's I've ever heard......
I am totally speechless on how amazing this cd is. I'm a huge FFD fan, and they never cease to amaze me with everything they do. Do yourself a favor and pick up anything by FFD, they will make your life more groovy. Cheers!

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointment...
For me, a very bad release from the group i was waiting a new gem. Too much electronics, artificial sound and boring melodies.
Much better the live one or True story...no way.
Save your money, even when this unfittable number will be released at the lowes price of [...] bucks!
Love,
lp

5.0 out of 5 stars Fat Freddy's Drop avoids sophomore slump and delivers perfection, November 18, 2009
By
Already a highly influential and established band in their home country of New Zealand, Fat Freddy's Drop are back with their second release. Their first album "Based on a True Story" (also highly recommended) went multi-platinum and is regarded as one of the country's best releases of the past 20 years. Why is that exactly? Their genre bending music is so diverse and well executed it's hard to put words to it. Soulful vocals over slow horns and moderated drum and bass techno beats with a heavy reggae influence?? It's really something that has to be heard. Sound spaces and textures on this disc will set any mood. While the 11 minute masterpiece that is "Shiverman" will show you what drum and bass music is capable of, the soulful tunes like "The Camel" and "Boondigga" will bring you back to a sonic nirvana, with slow horns and soulful jazz stylings to boot. I think it's just a matter of time before this band explodes in the U.S. If you are looking for something new and totally original, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supreme Beauty of an Album, November 28, 2009
I already reviewed this under the "import" heading, but the first review there trolled it by giving it one star (?!). Just thought I'd get on board here where the reviews have been started off with a much more worthy rating. I don't give 5 stars lightly, but with this album it's more than applicable. Why these guys aren't more well known is a mystery to me as they certainly deserve it and we could definitely use the positive message their music delivers, which seems to be an ever increasing rarity these days. Plus the music is simply brilliant. Please don't wait another 4 years for your next release guys! Hope to hear more sooner than later!

5.0 out of 5 stars Choice eh, September 2, 2011
This is a seriously, seriously good album. The only downside is that it is across 4 sides so you are constantly up and down turning it over but the flip side is that the space between the grooves is good for fidelity. This is a fantastic example of how good production does not necessarily have to squeeze the life out of a record.

Awesomised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better on vinyl!, June 6, 2011

I've been to many a FFD show, and bought all their releases. Fantastic band, with an amazing live show. I bought the vinyl release of Dr Boondigga, and the detail and difference within the music is stark, it's like being at a live show (without the crowd noise) - the horn section leaps out of the speakers, and the bass has depth and presence.

If you love to collect vinyl, and enjoy focusing on Roots, Dub and Reggae, as I do, you can't really go wrong with this release. With the grooves cut nice and deep onto 180 gram wax, you only get 2 tracks/15 minutes per side, but it's worth the extra involvement for that amazing sound!

Fat Freddy's Drop is a real trip, they're the best new reggae sound I've heard in a decade. Their original sound is rootsy and beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change of style but equally as incredible, April 10, 2010
This review is from: Dr Boondigga & the Big Bw (Audio CD)
Album is way different than the first but equally as great. First time I heard it I was super disappointed with all of the electronic elements but after giving it a chance this album is one of my favorites. Funky and soulful, this is an album made to sit outside in the sun, enjoy life, and sip on a drink of your choice with some good company.
