4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story Assortment! May 17, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is a fun collection offering a range of interesting and unusual stories. A few of my favorities were "Cat People," a tragedy turned into hope via some unusual visitors; "The Devil is a Gentleman" certainly had me guessing; "Trophy Wife" has a funny, evil twist to it. I also really enjoyed "The Horned Man," a tale of choices, regret and nature gone amok.

Throughout history people have told strange and wondrous tales about strange creatures and strange events that seemed to have happened somewhere nearby, well why not right here in the boondocks? Well, this book is a collection of fantasy short stories all written about here and now. There are tales of giants and selkies and devils and creatures better left unnamed. There are funny stories and thoughtful stories and stories that will creep you out!

Like all short story collections, I found this one to be a bit of a mixed bag. I really enjoyed some of the short stories, and I found some of them to be only OK. But, for the most part it is an enjoyable book, and I am very glad that I read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out on the Far Side September 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lifestyles of the poor, isolated, or hidden by accident, (or on purpose) may seem stranger than fiction to most people in the mainstream anyway. This book takes you even further out, with twists ranging from the horrific to the fantastical. Some were a little wistful, some rather disturbing, & the quality was a little uneven. I really enjoyed a couple of them, & liked all of them. I downloaded the book to my Kindle, and consider the book worth the $,& space.
