Fat white cylinder when off,

I had bought this lamp thinking the whimsical foilage design would be projected onto the walls of my room. Obviously I misunderstood. When off this is just a fat, bright white cyclinder. When on, this lamp projects the design onto the walls of the lamp itself - and not the walls of the room. At least not on my off white walls. It takes a max of a 35Watt bulb and so gives a soft light, good for seeing, but not strong enough to read by.
