  • More than 160 recipes for super-healthy, easy-to-prepare meals—from what to eat during pregnancy to baby's first purees to tasty snacks for teenagers
  • What foods can be used to combat common childhood ailments naturally—frequent colds and ear infections; dry skin or eczema; asthma; poor sleep habits
  • Tips on everything from how to get your child to drink more water, to how food preparation and cooking methods can enhance or detract from a food's nutritional value

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

While there's no surefire way to improve good health through immunity, food can have a lot to do with it, says Burney, a nutrition specialist who has written three previous books on children's diets. Giving parents one more reason to make sure their children eat well, she explains what can be done to strengthen children's defenses and make them better able to fight off bugs and infections. She offers a basic introduction to how the immune system works, following that with a section on allergies and one on antibiotics. Burney breaks the rest of the book into age-specific chapters, from birth through age 18. Throughout, she emphasizes food that is fresh and full of immune-boosting nutrients, like vitamin A, beta-carotene, B-complex, iron and zinc. The recipes are easy to prepare and age-appropriate: e.g., fruit and vegetable purees for six- to nine-month-olds; Pasta with Sweet Corn, Carrots and Raisins for five- to 12-year-olds; Peanut Satay Spring Rolls for 13- to 18-year olds. Burney codes each recipe, telling if it is vegetarian, vegan, wheat-free, dairy-free or gluten-free. This is an understandable, useful guide for parents who want to instill healthy habits in their children-with the side benefit of boosting their immune systems.

4.0 out of 5 stars useful book, June 21, 2007

This review is from: Boost Your Child's Immune System: A Program and Recipes for Raising Strong, Healthy Kids (Paperback)
This book is quite useful for helping out with a sick child. Unfortunately there are a lot of products that aren't available to everyone. For example where I grew up there was not a naturopath for MILES. Therefore a good portion of the book would not apply to my circumstances. Still, I do what I can and appreciate the information it contains about basic immunity-building and natural remedies. It is very supportive and info-rich.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is very direct and easy to read, with some amazing tips and ideas for meals. It includes weekly meal plans, which is really handy for a working parent. I also really appreciated that this book deals with different age groups and suggests what thy need at that point in time. AMAZING, really worth having in your house. I have now purchased 3 copies to give to my dear friends! Highly recommended!
