This review is from: Boosting Your Baby's Brain Power (Paperback)
This is one of the best and down to earth books on a baby's brain development. It's such an easy and informative read. I'm so pleased that the authors took on this challenging task and did it so well! Kudos to them. All new parents need this information; our babies are worth it. Buy it and pass it on to all the new parents in your life.

From birth, a baby's entire body is rapidly developing, including their brain. "Developing Your Baby's Brain Power" is a guide to enabling one's child to have all the benefits possible to encourage a healthy, prosperous brain. Explaining the many elements of what's understood of an infant's neural development, it discusses everything from crying to language development, vision, personality, motor control, and so much more. "Developing Your Baby's Brain Power" is a must for the intellectual parent who wants the brightest future possible for their child.

This review is from: Boosting Your Baby's Brain Power (Paperback)
This book has some good suggestions but be prepared to feel like an inadquate mother. There is no way to do all the things that it suggests unless you are a stay at home mom with a maid, cook and other staff. For example, you are supposed to read to your child 5 times a day, at different times.

Not Brain Building But Good Nurturing Advice,

This review is from: Boosting Your Baby's Brain Power (Paperback)
The title is misleading. The book is an easy and enjoyable read--in fact, great for new mothers--except for the frequent statements about how "it's been proven" that parents make the difference in "whether your little one will be able to walk, talk, smile, dress herself, draw a picture ... even get into college!" This is dramatic overstatement and not at all supported by even the research they reference. Before I'd give this book to any new parents, I'd explain that the first two chapters, while interesting in their discussion of how babies grow, how their brains develop, etc., makes dramatic leaps in an attempt to make parents believe they are reading a book about brain development and the critical role parents play ... and how risky it is not to watch for "windows of critical opportunity" that spell the difference between children who languish and children who thrive.
This is an issue for me because of the work I do as an intelligence specialist who works with children and their families, 5 Levels of Gifted: School Issues and Educational Options Parents don't--parents can't--make their children smart. But parents play a very critical role in whether or not their children ever get the chance to develop their talents and abilities. Parents play a critical role in whether or not their children will be socially and emotionally sound, confident people who can successfully live up to their potential. In this regard, the book is excellent in describing good nurturing steps all parents can take to ensure the best outcomes for their children. It's very much worth reading and sharing if you can sift through the misleading claims scattered throughout about boosting your baby's actual brain power. That's not really completely accurate or the most important reason to value this book. It's value lies in how well it is written and how much new mothers will enjoy all the tidbits of advice.

I normally don't write reviews. But thought of giving my feedback on this book as other three reviewers given 5 star to this. That is one of main reason to purchase this book. If you are looking for very comprehensive details on how a child's brain develops (nature and nurther impact etc) and as a parent what we should do, refer to this link: What's Going on in There? : How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life. This book will blow "Boosting Your Baby's Brain Power" out of the water.
