A partnership made in..?,
By
This review is from: Booth & Bad Angel (Audio CD)
Tim Booth of James, and Angelo Badalamenti, frequent composer for David Lynch films, team up here in an album that is simulatenously experimental and accesible. "Pop sensibility" flows together, as these two musicians, so much alike in tone and flavor, create some really moving music. Sometimes a bit moody, sometimes a miss here or there, I get the feeling that some of the stronger songs aren't hit/radio friendly simply because they're too literate (or depressing..)

An instant classic,

This is a stunning collaboration, featuring a stack of tunes that are *all* potential favourites - that is, every one is like that track you wait for, that one you immediately want to hear again. Eerie atmostpheric backing vocals (e.g. on Dance of the Bad Angels) add a unique sound, as does Butler's twisted guitar. This has everything - lyrics, melody, and that indefinable quality 'class'. Hard to imagine anyone not becoming addicted after a few play-throughs.

Incredible,

I am listening to this CD now after several months of it being put away. It is an amazing combination. I purchased the CD when it came out and never thought that the combination would work. Tim Booth has such and incredible voice that is so light it almost glows. Angelo Badalmenti, a composer from Twin Peaks, has such a distinctive sound that is somewhat dark. It totally works on this CD, however, and the result is simply incredible. I wish that they had done more music together. The name of the band is completely perfect and the CD is not far behind in it's perfection.

Tim is at his peak, with Angelo!,

This is a must for any James fan. I heard it the first time, and fell in love. My personal favorite on the album is "Fall In Love With Me". This has the haunting, smooth tunes one would expect from Badalamenti, and the great voice from Booth. They are a great team. "Dance of the Bad Angels" and "Life Gets Better" are also tunetastic! Buy this and you will not be sorry!!

Want to hear something different?,

From the lead singer of the band "James" and the composer of many David Lynch soundtracks, including "Twin Peaks" and "Lost Highway", comes some strange and interesting candy for your ears. The blend of the two artist makes for some great melodies and emotions. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is sick of the same old sound and wants to hear something new.

Tim Booth writing at his supreme best.,

Masterful James frontman Tim Booth writes at his very best in this excellent collaboration with Angelo Badalamenti and ex-Suede star Bernard Butler. Highlights include the upbeat "Heart", the strongly emotive "Rising" and the utterly brilliant "Stranger". Also Booth's conveyance of the universal truth in "Butterfly Dreams" : "Pledge true love, tenderly hold her - all the time looking over her shoulder" The entire album is sheer class.

Rock n Roll, dance music, atmosphere music, soulfull singing, and heartfelt writing...would you expect any less from Tim Booth (lead singer of James: listen to albums Laid and Whiplash). It's spiritual, melodic, and quite moving, what else is there to say about an album of music...it defies genre and time...it won't ever leave your cd player for long, that much, i promise...
